What are the most commonly used alternative words for forum?

is 'talk' second?
what about 'board'?

others?

Thanks!

It used to be BOARD from the good old BBS days. Some people are still using -bbs.com as part of their domain name. Don't know when TALK actually came into scene, perhaps it has something to do with WHT. Forum is more common used now. One of the down side is that the plural (forums) *might* be confusing, so some actually use both in order not to lose any traffic. But if you ask me, the singular sounds better, as in whatever economic forum. :D

yes, thats what I thought. Forum is definately the most recognizable, but when BD is asking for an outrageous amount on something very specific that I can develop, I need to look at alternatives.

I just wish there was a 2nd, 3rd ...etc... place at to which is most common after forum.

I like the sound of 'talk' more than board personally, although I was around from the BBS days.

It is also quite commone to eliminate the suffix altogether and simply go with the .org extension. Ex. instead of PeralJamForum.com I opted to go with Pearljam.org...

that would be great, but If the main subject is taken in every 'practical' extension except for .mars, then the options are creative wording...

Interesting thread.
So if com are taken, what is the next best to use if you want to use the same name.
.net
.org
.info
.ws

Any opinions?

Thanks

it really depends on the subject matter.
sometimes ORG can be the best.
At other times, NET for more specific areas.

Either way, I think finding a .com alternative is better (and hence why I started this thread).

info with a forum added to it doesnt make much sense IMO. And that said, I am a BIG .info fan, but .info is for information as I see it, not for forum related domains.

I understand the .com-standpoint seen from a traffic-view.
But if .com is undelevoped, is it still best to find another .com?

Edit: .com does not resolve to any page

In most instances .com for a forum is by FAR the best, occasionally .org may work e.g heath forum etc. net, info, biz don’t work at all IMO.

Cheers

1 talk
2 sub-dirs :)
