So i moved the forum to my root and bounced vbadvanced. i hope to eventually get a wordpress homepage or something like that eventually on the site, but maybe not the homepage.

so everything went good, moved files, changed vb settings and created a 301 redirect.

problem is, none of the forums work. they all dont exist, maybe a database issue? i read a lot online and it seemed as though moving the files was all i had to do. also the links at the bottom to log in to admin and mod control panels are gone.

any ideas?

What site? The site in your signature doesn't appear to work if that is the one.

Did you screw something up in your .htaccess? The site doesn't load.

edit - Nevermind it was loading really slow.

Ok, it appears you did not update your url correctly in the admin panel. The links are at the bottom but they are white. I am assuming this is because of the path to your .css file and it not being able to load it.

havent touched a thing, i had vbseo installed today and moved the forums to root about a hour or so ago

at the time i posted this the site worked fine, just the individual forums would go to a 404

i think it has something to do with the vbseo htaccess stuff, bc it was installed when it was in the forums folder

Make sure to check your .htaccess file for RewriteBase /forums/ and change it to RewriteBase /

Then, login to your admincp and on the left there should be an option for vBseo - Login to the control panel and make sure the url for your site is correct.

Also, if you are using cache for your forum, try clearing the cached pages.

this is what my htaccess file says:

# Comment the following line (add '#' at the beginning)
# to disable mod_rewrite functions.
# Please note: you still need to disable the hack in
# the vBSEO control panel to stop url rewrites.
RewriteEngine On

# Some servers require the Rewritebase directive to be
# enabled (remove '#' at the beginning to activate)
# Please note: when enabled, you must include the path
# to your root vB folder (i.e. RewriteBase /forums/)
RewriteBase /forums/

#RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.yourdomain\.com
#RewriteRule (.*) http://www.yourdomain.com/forums/$1 [L,R=301]

RewriteRule ^((urllist|sitemap_).*\.(xml|txt)(\.gz)?)$ vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_getsitemap.php?sitemap=$1 [L]

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !(admincp/|modcp/|cron)
RewriteRule ^((archive/)?(.*\.php(/.*)?))$ vbseo.php [L,QSA]

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !^(admincp|modcp|clientscript|cpstyles|images)/
RewriteRule ^(.+)$ vbseo.php [L,QSA]

RewriteBase /forums/ change to RewriteBase / (your forum is in the / directory and not /forums anymore)

These are turned off, but if you decide to turn them on by removing the # you would actually need to put your domain where it says yourdomain
#RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.yourdomain\.com
#RewriteRule (.*) http://www.yourdomain.com/forums/$1 [L,R=301]

After you login to your forum, you should see the admin cp link at the bottom. They are not displayed until you login.

Did you login to your admin cp and view the vBseo control panel to see if the /forums path was in the options anywhere?

Care to PM me the admin login details? I will take a look. It has to be in your style vars then.

I think I did some work for you before with the forum and some mods, so I will take a look if you want at this.
