MSN has introduced country-specific domain names, letting internet users in the UK choose "hotmail.co.uk" as an email address.

According to MSN, with 187 million Hotmail.com accounts around the world, it is often hard to get the actual account name you want. The new UK domain means there are "hundreds of thousands of names" up for grabs.

To coincide with the launch, MSN has linked up with eBay to promote an auction in aid of children's charity NSPCC. MSN has pre-registered and donated some of the “most sought after names” to the auction.

People can bid for film character icons including BridgetJones @hotmail.co.uk, JabbaHut @hotmail.co.uk and batman @hotmail.co.uk, or some of the country's most popular baby names such as Emily, Chloe, Jack, Thomas and Daniel.

Funny, I remember them cancelling a few premium @hotmail.com address auctions that were running on ebay. I was bidding on [email protected] once and the auction was taken down.
They don't let people auction the names, but they do it.
Sheesh
