Hi!

My name is Tim

I am newbie, I have started in April, 2019.

Bought a lot of garbage:)

Paid a few times for SEDO apprisals. Because they say that only domains appraised by SEDO may be listed at the price which is higher than 50.000, and seeing such examples like ghanaporn.com - 167,700 USD - I decided that I can easily make a fortune just creating the copies. But that brilliant idea has crashed when my freshly made pornghana.com was apprised at 190 USD value by SEDO (paid 99 USD to SEDO for that:) ), though "the domain has very good advertising and branding potential and is of high commercial potential", but the comparable sales are only 100-300 USD, so... I asked them, how could that be in that case that ghanaporn.com is listed at 167,700 USD, and the answer was something like "hell knows";) So - does anyone interested in a couple of dozens 2-3 short words variations adult domains with high branding and commercial potential...?? Just in case...:)))

Paid a few times for auction at SEDO. Wcked.com was even sold there - for 99 EUR. Got about 12 EUR profit:)) Understood that people rarely buy at SEDO auctions. Most buys at the SEDO auctions comes from Make Offer domains which were transferred to the auction after the offer was made buy the buyer, and rarely some other buyers try to beat that price.

Part timer buy now. I am a lawyer. From Russia originally. Moved to Bulgaria a few years ago, because I do not like the direction where Russia moves, leaded by Putin. I still have the possibility to earn money from my legal experience mostly. But I am afraid that it will not last for long, so trying the other sources. Have own travel blog, but it is poorly monetized. Thinking of getting more experience in SEO optimization and web design.

Hope to learn more about domains investing from the experienced specialists here.

Hi Tim

Welcome to DNForum.com

if you had came here first, we could have told you not to pay for ANY appraisals, anywhere.

also, make a note:

what other domains are "listed at" does not mean that name will sell for that amount,
nor does it mean that the name is worth the amount it is priced at.

additionally, if a name is sold at a certain price and you have a name with similar or same keywords....
that does not mean your name is worth the same amount or higher, than that price of the sold name.

each domain must be evaluated on it's own.

Good Luck!

imo...

Thank you for the advices!

Yes, I understand that the seller may ask xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx for a domain which value is zero. But the reason was SEDO declares that no price of the domain may be set over 50.000 if it is not confirmed by SEDO`s appraisal. It turned out it may;)

Welcome to DNForum.com Tim.

A few additional remarks.. Auctions are primarily aimed at investors. Very few end users particpate. As such by chosing auction you chose an investor price point and your domain name needs to have liquid value for anyone to bid.

Also, the adult industry really suffered in recent years. Guess to much free porn. I would look at other niches, very few decent sales there.

Domaining can be a good sidehustle, but its notoriously hard to make a stable income from it. I would not look at this as a possibility for another full time career but more of a nice additional income at times.

We look forward to having you here and feel free to ask any additional questions you might have.

Thanks again, Castion!

Yes, I understand that thanks to that forum already - domain investing may be profitable (and may be not, like any other investment), and the descent average sale number is 3-5 a year (though the profit figures may be attractive). That is good to know. Because I thought that the people sales dozens of xxx or even x.xxx figures domains every month, so I thought - why there are no any bids (except of the fact that the most of the bought the first weeks was garbage;)) ). Now I see, that if the domain is descent, I just need to wait months (or even years) and be ready to loose or to win.

So I will try now to clean the portfolio from the obvious garbage, selling it at BIDO for the price of the registration + a few bucks (I did not buy for the higher price yet anyway), will put the realistic minimum offer price for the domains which seem to be more or less good (and will try to develop them), will put low enough buy bow price for the rest, and will not hurry with buying new domains. Will look at sale statistics and expired domains auctions to understand how it works.
