In another thread domainer111 coined the word de-snap for when you remove a SnapBack from a domain name and put it on another name. I said I had lost some great names by de-Snapping, only to watch SnapNames go on to grab the name for the new Snap holder a few months later.

In mitigation of my actions, in most if not all cases the life of my SnapBacks on the names was due to expire before the names deleted – thanks to NetSol dragging its heels with the process – and rather than renew the SnapBacks on the names (already spent a small fortune on domains), I exchanged the SBs for other domains which were already in the purge cycle for deletion.

Three names that immediately come to mind that I’ve lost through de-Snapping – hereon after to be known as the ones that got away - are:

GrandBahama.com
Lagoons.com
Wanker.com

That last one sums up my feelings about NetSol forever holding on to expired names before deciding to push the delete button.

Feel free to add your worst de-Snaps to this thread…that’s if you’ve already gotten over the pain LOL. To lessen the blow you could always e-mail the successful registrants and tell them you had the de-Snap on their domain name :D

I de-snapped Texan.com and GeorgeK won it with a Snap

I'm sure I've done other equally dumb de-snaps too

Ouch, that would have hurt Beachie...Closer to home, aussies.com dropped a few months ago and Jeffb at Namefox grabbed it - he said no one had placed a bid with him for the name :(

For the sake of accuracy, just double-checked and the third name I missed out on in the drops last May, ended in -ing, not -er. Still a good adult website name, and yes Stouch, they would make great e-mail addresses to use for the right ocassion...such as replies to C&D's, LOL.

Didn't GeorgeK sell it for $10k a while back? Or am I mistaken.

Hey Fizz,

One of my worst ones was not quite a de-snap...it was about Summer 2001.

I noticed good-mp3.com had tonnes of links and high alexa's.

"Hmm I thought...maybe noone will want it and I can bid cheap on NW!!".

Duly placed bid to get name in the list.

Later that day, snap gone and eventually they snap got it!!!

No guesses as to who got it!!

Ok now is the time for clearing the texan.com and texans.com issue since TC is here back.

TC, did you buy texans.com for $1250 or not?
