Two names back-ordered with SnapNames were picked up by for us by Namewinner. Incidentally both names had the entry level bid ($8.75)

Seems like NW is finally getting its act together...

They are decent names...both dotcom.

In one case the .biz, .net, .co.uk, .org & .de are registered.

Funny, someone was just saying how they beat Namewinner "manually" a couple of times recently.
I guess the behavior is a little more complicated than I thought...

Yes beat namewinner in NSI drop is no problem, at least was no problem, even with my enom reseller account, If it would be godaddy, shlund.de drop then it is no problem beat snapnames/namewinner manually with enom account,

But its really hard to beat snapnames on NSI drops

Snapnames will whoop all over namewinner and make em look like some drunk chump on a park bench.

Forget about who beat who. Its all about odds. Have the odds in your favor or continue to play the who beat who game.

With 17 Registrar partners if Snap dont beat NameWinner regularly, they'll be history.
With so many resources, they are expected to beat Namewinner. In this case they failed to do just that...and I'm not complaining :D

Don't forget they have had a month to rebuild their engine!

They didn't do much to the interface, so it must have been the engine, I guess.

May be that is what makes the apparent difference in power before the drops stopped and now. Just may be.

Namewinner's signup page asks for credit card details yet appears insecure (no padlock). Can you trust this?

DotDuDe, why does Dotgrabber use Namewinner ???

There are no guarantees who will get the name.

It's all about timing. And luck.

If Snap and NW are polling every 200ms and the name drops 15ms after their last polls and you submit a one-click reg 1 ms after the name drops, you could very well beat them.

But you're statistically more likely to get the nam if you have the SNAP and the top bid at NW. ALong with as many of the other drop services as you can muster the time to use.

It seems to me that there are only three drop services worth checking out:

SnapNames
DropWizard
NameWinner

Or are there other drop services that can compete?

I believe that NicGenie got ecmp.com($276/NameWinner) and kers.com($4000/NameWinner).
