Big Fart: Dont think the TM will be much hassle.

And, I thought it would be developed into some site about the NBA or something.

I definitely think i can sell it above regfee though.

Thanks to the guys who have posted

You're kidding right? The name alone will get you in trouble if you try to put it online - but it you make the second mistake of putting content about the NBA on it you will be paying your lawyer's bills until you are 65 (unless you just hand over the name gracefully when they come knocking on your door).

what do you other people think?
Would I do anything illegal if all I did was to put up a reg page for email addys, and send the people who have them, newsletters about the NBA?

NBA team refers to one team.

Not a great domain, TM aside.

The fact is, if they want to, the NBA can come and take your name away whenever they want it. My company is currently working on a licensing deal with both the NFL and Major League Baseball. The NFL deal has been in negotations for almost 2 years! They take the rights to their names extremely seriously and expect anyone to pay up who wants to use them.

I see nothing but potential headaches in misappropriating names like these so I wouldn't go within a mile of them. Whether you want to spend any time developing and promoting something with that name that will be blown out of the water if they hear about it is up to you.

TM issue aside, the domain name would only be of use to a NBA Team, of which there are only 29 and they all already have good domains for their sites.

Still you could probably sell it for $25

I had NHLTeams.com and NHLLive.vom and was pursued by the NHL. I coughed it up.
