Need to find the right media outlet for this news!

I need to find the correct media outlet for some very, very big financial transactional news.

A friend of mine who is a coder told me about this a couple of hours ago and he wants to release this information to the best media outlet.

It involves a software glitch in financial transactions. If any unscrupulous people got hold of this information they could exploit this weakness and rip off millions of customers.

So far only 4 of us know about this excluding the financial organisation. The organisation have not done anything about this yet, they were told about this 7 days ago.

The financial organisation is breaking many international financial regulations by not acting on the information they have been given relating to these issues.

If the financial organisation were to close down their operations to repair this problem it would cause huge problems to the cash transactions globally.

I would be extremely careful about this. Ask yourself some questions:
- What is in for me?
- If this is real and the damage is big, would they make me disappear to shut me up?

Just need to find the correct outlet, its very difficult to get to the correct person at the beginning.

Its a very big dilemma.

I don't think anyone can give you a right advice. It's all different depending what country are you talking about.
What is the relationship of the organization to the government.........

Mostly you would run into an ethical issue because issue like this normally leaked from the inside.

It has nothing to do with what government. If it affects global cash transactions as you say an american media outlet is best.

Sounds like something Wired might cover if it is a software glitch, and I imagine they are easier to reach than most media. Perhaps a similar outlet that covers financial news would take interest as well. I would suggest that you (or your friends) don't leak the exact exploit in the coverage, but perhaps it could be shown to one reporter as proof and they could describe the seriousness of the issue and highlight that the company has yet to take visible action on the information they have received.
