Companies report results and doesn’t mention today’s .web auction. Does this mean anything?

Verisign and Neustar released second quarter earnings today after the bell. Both companies are rumored to be backers of Nu Dot Co in the .web auction that concluded today for $135 million, but neither mentioned in in their press releases. I suspect an analyst will ask the companies (at least Verisign) if it’s involved during today’s conference call.

Verisign reported that it added 0.78 million net new names during the second quarter across .com and .net, ending with 143.2 million domain names in the domain name base. It processed 8.6 million new .com and .net registrations last quarter, which is fewer than it processed in the same quarter of 2015.

That said, Q4 2015 and Q1 2016 had much more registrations than normal.

Verisign also announced that .net prices will increase from $7.46 to $8.20 on February 1, 2017. That will make .net domains more expensive than .com.
