year2008.info - $100k - hmmm, a tad optimistic methinks

will be interesting to see if they ever have a "sold" section (especially one that lists prices).

Yeah, perhaps .info will be worth that much by then :D

I think impotence.info is a great site for selling Viagra, but 10K is a real mouthful to swallow right now.

I do not agree with some of you regarding .info. It could very well be a great TLD for the right domains. Look how long it took for the .com to kick off. Give at least some of the new TLD the same time, so the public and most importantly the businesses can get familiar with them. It only takes a couple of big players to start using them before the rest will follow. It seems like the Europeans have understood that and registered a bunch of them.
Just because .com rules today, does not mean that it will in all areas in the future. Think about it, what sounds better if you are looking for information about a place or a person.
NewYork.info or NewYork.com or Viagra.info or Viagra.com?

Like I said before, let's see what the future beholds. I surely would not mind seeing the .com fade away as the sole TLD that counts. It will only benefit us all.

.com took time not for the tld but for the internet itself to gather acceptance. new tld's are launched into a marketplace that understands the value of the internet - so its a very different thing with different timeframes.

its a catch 22 situation, the logic seems to be that businesses will get used to them over time and then maybe adopt them - but for business to get used to them business needs to actually use them.

every day that goes by without any major corps using them is another where the other corps are not seeing it used and that means the curve for adoption is not rising.

The problem with new tld's is they now instantly become a speculators namespace with the bulk of (the very few) aftermarket transactions being between resellers who are trading on hope. Business in general seems to be very happy with .com and the new tld's aren't a solution to a problem, other than for speculators who are hoping for a second chance to make their fortune.

Stick with .com and make money or go with new tld's and trade in hope and see which one pays your bills.

Famous last words  I've archived this in my quote site for future generations to see :D

Yes, .com is king. But watch out for the queen, particularly if

1. you are into B2B

2. you understand what surfers want from the internet, .information.

The catch however is this, you need to own the very best. Nothing less.

And only .info and .biz. Not .tuvali, .cocosisland, .westernsamoa.

I think that the original intention with the .info was noble. It was supposed to be an alternative to the commercial (.com) sites, however, without the proper monitoring to ensure that it stayed the way it was supposed to, it's useless.

Personally, I don't like .info, but if it's ever used the way it was intended to be used, it could be helpful for students, researchers and people looking for info. Save a lot of time come research paper time, you know.

So the question is..What the plan is for your site...

If you want to end up on page 1 or 2 of searches, it really does not matter what extension you have. If you want people to find through searching, then you've got it, regardless of the TLD!....
If you own jokes.info or jokes.ws(a top 10 searched word almost daily), and know how to tweak the coding, you can end up on top 10-20 searches, you will get traffic.
Sure, people may not remember it like .com, but if your goal is not to be amazon.com and just want to end up in search results with good traffic, your TLD is really secondary.

Have a great domain day.
