"Nearly a decade after the dot-comedy declared last call on Evanston-based Liquor.com, the company is opening up a new tab with a $1 million Series A round of financing. Founder Steve Olsher says Cambridge, Mass.-based Launch Capital will fund the development of a new recipe-oriented Web site.
Although Liquor.com at one time generated $3 million annually selling libations over the Web, Olsher says the company is "going as far away from e-commerce as possible." In 2000, the company imploded after several failed investments. Olsher recently reacquired the domain name for an undisclosed sum after originally securing rights to the URL for $7,500 in 1998.
He said the site, which should relaunch in the fall with a management team based in San Francisco, hopes to emulate the Food Network and create cocktail-mixing celebrities."
