They want you to play a game of buying and selling items like stock market games where you don't actually put money up. However, if I understand things correctly, you set up this virtual site and it has real advertising with real revenue. It also has some type of "virtual" value as well based on traffic.

I think you can buy and sell with virtual money but you can also buy and sell these virtual assets with real money. Someone is selling a "virtual" mobile.com for $100K BIN on Ebay and he has 2 offers below the BIN. Of course Weblo avoids liability because they advertise a strict takedown policy.

I am sure there are a few lawsuits in there somewhere.

I get it. But a lawyer's time is not virtual so I wonder when will they get the first lawsuit for attempting to play "Monopoly" with copies of real money.

I slightly get it I think. You can own the virtual generic domains like say diamonds .com. I would guess that you can only use the virtual diamonds .com domain using either the Weblow site or Weblow software. I think that Weblow may be hiding behind the word 'virtual'. Seems misleading.

Well, it is a game. and domains are part of it. as are celebrities and mayors.

It is not virtual in the 3d sense of the word but it is a made up world and I am sure people still have to take notice of trademark law and it might take the threat of a lawsuit to stamp any abuse out.

But just as in the real world there are generics and they have value.

Earlier this week I sold the mayorship of Seattle in Weblo for $2000, which is about $1100 more then my highest real world domain sale of the year.

Was it a one off? maybe. Is everyone going to get rich just by registering any rubbish? Absolutely not.

All I know is that Dollars earned in a virtual world buy exactly the same as those earnt in the real world

I am also on weblo and I think it could end up being a good investment as long as you stay away from TMs. Just because it is "virtual" doesnt mean companies cant protect their intellectual property. I would only buy generic words that dont have a TM. Some generic words might also have a TM with the .com extension in it such as hotels.com. Hotels is a generic word so you could own the .net or .org but if you owned hotels.com even in weblo it would be a TM violation since the .com extension is part of the company's name. If weblo becomes big then its only a matter of time before companies enforce their TMs on weblo as well.

I still don't get it.

Can someone provide a link to a website using one of these "Weblo domains"?

Does a weblo domain need a website? :D

I'll really be darned if a weblo user makes an actual killing out of such.

weblo allows you to register .com, .net, .org or any existing extension name. It also places google ads onto your site and you earn ad revenue from it too. weblo sites also show up on real life google search results. they also let you own a city, state, or any property that exists in real life too and there are ads on those pages as well for you to earn revenue from.
