News from the U.S. Congressional hearing on ICANN this morning:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060920...t2tXwMjtBAF;_ylu=X3oDMTA2Z2szazkxBHNlYwN0bQ--

News account reads to me like ICANN got their hands slapped a bit.

An excerpt:

"The U.S. Commerce Department said Wednesday it will extend its oversight of the California organization that handles domain name policies, while finding ways to improve the group's accountability and transparency.

Commerce plans to renew a memorandum of understanding with ICANN, but it will likely add provisions designed to address complaints that the group is sometimes too secret and makes decisions that don't reflect the Internet community at large, Kneuer said."

GoDaddy’s Jones criticized ICANN for too often conducting business, including the proposed .com agreement, “behind closed doors.” She called on Congress to require ICANN to create a plan to increase the Internet community’s confidence in it.
GoDaddy's Christine Jones is top notch, and GoDaddy.com are quite smart in retaining this kind of talent. Works to their credit and to the benefit of general internet users and domainers. I am extemely pleased that GoDaddy have stepped up and distinguished themselves as an advocate for fairness and common sense.

I know that some might not be big fans of GoDaddy. But this kind of direct involvement and commitment of resources makes GoDaddy A+ above all other registrars. They have earned some respect from domainers for meaningful representation. They already have 80% of my business ... and will be getting the rest of it.
