I have been looking at reported "forum" domain sales figures to get an idea of where NewsForum.com fits in. I paid $10k for it as a development project when I had a lot more money coming in. I haven't had the time or motivation to do much with it, so I am considering selling it for a loss. What are your thoughts?

Depends on what your idea of a "loss" is, as I believe you could at least break even with the right buyer. If your prepared to take a loss, your odds of a sale are obviously better, but don't sell yourself short out of desperation.

Study the dates on these sales and prepare yourself for a "today's economy" selling price. Any of the aforementioned sales that were pre-2008 could be thought of as inflated by today's standards. If they're more recent, then one could believe that this particular domain genre is holding its value. News is a very general keyword, so absent a website that zeros in on a particular kind of news ( sports news, world news, political etc.) the value could swing either way depending on the buyer.

A "smart" reseller might pay $3-5K for this name IMHO

I think you are wrong to show the prices of other Forum domains that don't compare or have a direct advantage of helping you sell your domain... you are pulling your domain down with that list. The only one I would show is

Forums.com sold for $399,990 the rest aren't helping you.

But ...I think the domain is worth more than you think it is.
