Hi Guys,

With Google Wallet already in the market, PayPal Wallet on the way and most probably the Apple iWallet on the next iphone 5 ( plus 100's of other wallets in the works ) , has anyone started to invest in any Mobile Wallet, Digital Wallet, NFC, Mobile Money or Tap To Pay domains ?

According to experts, paying via your Smartphone will be the norm by 2016, no-more bulky wallet with credit cards in. Looking at these websites - www.nfcworld.com , www.nfcrumors.com but to name a few, NFC tech on your mobile will be the driving force behind the mobile payments, including texting payment etc.......

A lot of big companies have already invested in some very nice domains including - Mastercard with TapnGo.com and Amazon with TextPayment.com . It seems that the word "Tap" is becoming common for the mobile phone, just like "Click" is for the pc/laptop user.

Looking on domain buying sites like Sedo, Go-Daddy & Buy Domains etc.....Ive noticed a lot of domains already reg'd ( not all mine, lol ) , and on sedo some offers on domains like "MobileWallet", "DigitalWallet" & "NFC" are starting to filter through ahead of the Mobile World Congress 2012, where all these features will be showcased on the mobile.

I have had a few "low ball" offers on 1 or 2 of my domains but since I had a 5 year plan from the start, I am in no rush to sell my Wallet Domains. What mobile payment domains do you have ?

Cheers

I seriously under sold (IMO) a wallet name about 2 years ago - I have regretted the sale since the moment the buyer accepted my first (mid XXXX) offer. It was a good sale but when the buyer snags the first offer w/o a negotiation - it makes me think I left $$ on the table. It was a hand reg from 2007 so I only had about $25 into it - and I was only thinking ROI - not enduser value as much.

I have the .com domains (wallet) phones and money (phones). Been hanging on to them until the tech catches up. Will either develop or sell eventually.

@NameGuy

I think its fair to say that the technology has caught up now.

Bringing mobile wallets into the mainstream

Tap-n-Gamble

Interesting piece -

"The second interesting thing I want you to keep an eye on is how NFC could impact the gambling industry—specifically, the "mobile gaming" industry, as they call it. For the sake of clarity, I'll just refer to it as "mobile gambling." Mobile gambling could give casinos a way to extend the gambling experience beyond just the casino floor. While experts agree that there are a lot of legalities to consider (especially in the United States), there are countries with looser gambling laws that could see NFC-enabled tablet devices spring up in hotels to allow players to gamble from their rooms or in restaurants—all the while using the NFC chips to send information about wins and losses back to a central computer. Or, they could simply transfer funds from a player's credit card. As you can imagine, this would mean (at minimum) hundreds of millions of dollars in additional revenues for the casinos—something they're no doubt eager to exploit."

Vodafone and Visa today announced a worldwide partnership to enable consumers to pay for goods and services using their mobile phones instead of coins and banknotes.

Quote: "The Vodafone mobile wallet represents the next stage of the smartphone revolution"

The companies will work together to develop a Vodafone-branded proposition that will be offered to consumers across Vodafone’s 398-million customer base in more than 30 countries across five continents, enabled by Visa’s outstanding payment network, product suite and brand. The partnership - the largest of its kind between a global payment network and mobile operator - combines the companies’ global reach and expertise to bring Visa payment functionality to consumers around the world.

The new Vodafone mobile payment proposition announced with Visa will be based onthe Visa prepaid account and offered to consumers in partnership with Visa Issuers. The service will initially be launched in Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Turkey, and the UK, starting in the coming financial year. Other countries within Vodafone's global portfolio will follow.

In addition to the Vodafone-branded stored value account inside the mobile wallet, Vodafone and Visa will work together to enable Visa Issuers for mobile payments globally. The platform will be open to all partners of all relevant industries, including financial institutions, retailers, transport and utility companies to host their services within an innovative new Vodafone mobile wallet.

Vittorio Colao, Group Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone, said: “The Vodafone mobile wallet represents the next stage of the smartphone revolution. It offers our customers the speed, simplicity and convenience of managing their everyday transactions with a single wave or tap of their smartphone, using innovative and reliable services developed by Vodafone and Visa - technology and providers they can trust. Our mobile wallet will be open to any service provider and we are committed to enable all partners to provide our joint customers the richest service portfolio possible."

"2012 is the year of NFC deployment at Mobile World Congress"

"If you are still doubting that this is the year of NFC deployment and that the technology will feature heavily at MWC, consider this. The show goes over 3 days and on the first day the GSMA are putting on a keynote called "NFC Services Gain Momentum". Thursday there is another called "Delivering Innovative Mobile Payment Services". On Friday, it's "Where are the Opportunities in Mobile Money?" On Tuesday Feb 28th, there is a GSMA seminar called "NFC: Advancing The Mobile Ecosystem". NFC is set to be everywhere at this year's Mobile World Congress and with many MNOs being loyal members of the GSMA, you can bet a lot of attention will be on payments."

Does all that create a market for tap domains ?
I could see a few nice brandable domains selling but I don't think there will be millions of end users for that kind of domain. Certainly not enough to absorb all the domainer-driven supply :)

@Katherine

Not sure at what point in my posts I mentioned that everyone should panic buy "tap" domains.

I am not here to make everyone go crazy over a trend, but I do like to think that domainers are a team, and I will point out up and coming trends and hopefully the clever ones will reg a domain that will make them a couple of $$.

Seriously, no harm intended, I am like everyone here trying to nail that sweet name.

Take from this and my posts what you will.

Cheers
