Nintendo were slow off the mark when registering the domain name Wii.com. The Wii.com domain was bought in August 1994 by Willamette Industries of Portland, Oregon. Bang the web address into your browser and you'll head straight to the website of the Weyerhaeuser Company, an international forest products company.

Apparently Nintendo have not even approached the company with an offer to buy it back. Nintendo have recently bought the domain name, www.wiichannel.com so it seems likely that this will be the main portal to everything Wii related.

Meanwhile, the Weyerhaeuser Company can look forward to a healthy boost of traffic over the coming months.

That's funny, nintendo needs to make sure they buy a domain BEFORE they release the name of the console, then they might actually get it, lol.

Im familiar with Weyerhauser since they had wood plants in Eugene. It's a good company really, the first to do reforestation tactics to ensure the forest is never really gone, they donate the wood for the homes being built to habitat for humanities and that ABC show where they build people houses...etc. Alot of charity going on by them.

They deserve the added boast imho :)

They ought to slap some Nintendo affiliate program links on there and make some $$$ with the added income. Or turn their site into a Nintendo site :)

Just imagine though.
You're a 50 year old professional business man with clients you've acquired through the years.

Do you seriously slap video game affiliate ads on your company's homepage?
Does he really need to?

Do any of you know who Weyerhaeuser Company is? Can you imagine Microsoft putting affiliate links on it's homepage? These guys make more money than Nintendo ever will....

Good news...

In spite of my decision to never buy another .US domain after reading this thread I snapped up wiichannel.us.

For those looking to see a site dedicated to wii domain names I highly recommend http://www.wiinames.com. This is not my domain but a few of my wii names are posted there.
