Whoa I went to www.nissan.com to checkout there cars, and seems like some guy owns this name and isnt giving it to nissan, check it out.

Nissan.com

Any one know the story behind this? I would be real pissed if I was Nissan.

This is a VERY old story. His name is Nissan and got to it first.

I'm surprised the car company hasn't written him a $20 million cheque, yet. Check the Overture stats for the domain.

But why would he have to make it a non commercial site? He owns a company called Nissan Computers?!

Yeah, maybe they already offered him a couple million and he declined.
If they haven't offered him anything yet they are foolish as I ahve also typed it in assuming that their site would be there.

I like the Survivor.com site (read the little blurb on the site). I read somewhere that during the CBS show that site gets train loads of visitors.

very intersting stuff ... but why in the world would he put auto ads of any sort on his site? I understand the traffic/click payouts, but it just gives Nissan Motors some ammunition. I would do nothing with the name, but promote his computer company and isp and basically wait for the big check to roll in.

I'm pretty sure that Nissan (Motors) did not offer to buy the domain. It is usually the policy of large corporations to use lawyers and we all know that slimeballs (I mean lawyers) send cease and desist letters which threaten to take your life from you unless you give up what you have.

If I were Uzi Nissan I would have a hard time selling it for anything less then what they were trying to sue me for. Seems they valued the name at 10 million.

I thinks I've been watching this unfold for the last 5 years.

Yeah after the mac ipod incident you have to be careful about what you promote on a name like this.

I own atari.net and I am cautious not to promote myself too hard.
