Not Stale
http://www.notstale.com/
The place to get fresh news, never stale.

About

Not Stale is a news aggregator with the news split up into different verticals. Each vertical has its own site URL. For example, all Technology news is located at http://tech.notstale.com/

Most news aggregators or news sites are setup in a way in which someone else decides what is important to the reader, such as an Editor or by popular vote.

Not Stale's philosophy is simple, show the reader a stream of all the latest news as it happens and let them decide what is important to them -- what they want to read.

This project took months of hard work to get to today. You can have a true media startup company instantly.

How it Works

We've built an RSS crawling system that constantly crawls RSS feeds looking for new content. When new content is found, it is placed on the site for the users to view. The newest/freshest stories surface to the frontpage of the site, pushing the older, more stale stories down.

Community

We've built a user system which can be the foundation for a real community around the news. Visitors can create accounts, upload their photo, save stories, Twitter about a story or leave a comment on a story right on Not Stale.

Leaving comments is extremely easy using Ajax. Users can upload photos just as easily and then crop them to their liking using our very intuitive tool. Users can also Twitter a news story which can bring additional traffic back to the site.

Creating an account is about as easy as it gets, without even having to reload the page -- the same for logging in.

Search Engine Friendly-ness

Not Stale has a massive amount of pages. Every news story has its own dedicated static URL that looks like:
http://tech.notstale.com/story/3134...ts-benefits-offers-up-to-100-off-new-iPhones/

Over time search engines like Google will begin to massively index this site because of its sheer size. With a community leaving comments on stories and people Twittering back to the site you'll see the indexed pages begin to move up in the rankings.

Search Function

We've built a very powerful news search engine, right into Not Stale. The search uses all the stories indexed on Not Stale, which is growing constantly because of the crawler. Here is an example search for "flickr" on the Technology vertical:
http://tech.notstale.com/search?q=flickr&b=Search&o=d

Administration / Expanding

Not Stale's administration panel makes it extremely easy to add a new vertical and edit existing verticals. From the panel you can create a whole new Not Stale site. For instance, if you wanted to create a Widget site located at http://widget.notstale.com/ that had all the news related to Widget, you could do that in minutes without any technical know-how. All you need to create a new news vertical/site is some RSS feeds for the RSS crawler to crawl!

Want to add a news source to the Celebrity & Gossip vertical? You can do that right in the administration panel. You can also re-arrange the order in which the sites/verticals appear on the navigation bar using a simple drag & drop tool.

Possibilities are endless, you can add as many sites as you want, to cover as many topics as you want.

Questions

If you have any questions what so ever do not hesitate to ask, I will answer them all as best as I can.
