NASCAR drivers ought to be ashamed of themselves, sending guys off to prison like that.
That's who inmate Jonathan Lee Riches says is responsible for putting him in federal prison. And he's so mad about it that he has filed a $23 million lawsuit against NASCAR.
Riches claims NASCAR is on the hook for him getting speeding tickets and using fraudulent credit cards. The suit filed in U.S. District Court in Richmond, Va., claims that watching races "influenced (Riches) to speed. ... doing 135 mph and getting tickets," according to the Nashville City Paper.
In Riches' clearly rational argument, he claims his addiction to NASCAR caused him to use "illegally obtained credit cards to attend races." He also said that once there he used more stolen credit cards to buy products being sold by the race drivers.
"I used (Kyle) Petty's Discover Card to buy Mark Martin Viagra," Riches claims in the complaint.
Riches said he knew the credit cards he used to buy race tickets were fraudulent, but the complaint did offer the thought-provoking justification that "the defendants insisted they did not care and encouraged me to buy Budweiser beer and funnel cake with more stolen funds."
Riches wraps up his complaint by stating that Jeff Gordon's Dupont-sponsored car "poisoned me with Dupont chemicals. I pray this court will grant my motions for relief. I don't want to die in prison."
Riches may have not inhaled anything from Dupont, but he sure seems to have inhaled something.
