If so far i only was suspicious about it, i now have proof that NW has changed the focus and in fact has become weaker:

1) I was the high bidder at $8.95 on a name of todays drop; nothing great but still a nice name i thought, so i checked back at NW like 2 hours after drop had occured today - it still had me as high bidder and said "expiring".Now, just out of curiousity i go to registerfly to check out who got the name only to find the name AVAILABLE for registration ! 2 hours after drop time ! So of course i regged it manually.

NW - THAT SUCKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I mean, i know $8.95 aint a lot but what good is the whole service for if you cant rely on them in terms of them at least TRYING to get the name for you no matter how high the bid?
I understand there is a priority depending of the heights of bids, but not going after a name AT ALL ? After 2 hours ?!?!

Does that mean i have to outbid myself from now on numerous times on names i am the only bidder on ?!
If so, why not start the minimum bid at $150 right away ?
Damn...

2.) So because of this (has been the second time already this has happened at NW to me - i thought..) i checked ALL my current high bids against whois just to find out there were more than 15 names out of those high bids that had been catched or registered manually again by other people already - some of these names were in my NW list since 2 months, other only since a few days.
Now, nothing spectacular to have several high bids in your NW list that still say expiring as thats what NW shows even if they didnt get the name, BUT:

In light of what i just reported above and the fact that ALL those 15 names had my high bids not higher than $34 maximum each, and as those names surely were only of specific interest to a few (otherwise i wouldnt have been the high bidder at $25 average of course) i am starting to ask myself if the reason for NW not getting these 15 names as well was because NW DIDNT GO FOR THEM AT ALL ?!?!?!?

Hey Namewinner - if it indeed its like you are going only after the high profile $1k+ bid names from now on, better tell your customers as then instead of bidding i gladly buy a snap at snapnames if available because that way i know at least i have SOME chance to get the desired name !!

Man this sucks so much.......

Well would you go after a 2K name or would you go after an $8.75 name? Dropwizard has adopted this philosophy and pretty much everyone else too. I highly doubt that NicGenie, thefirstname and others submit all the names that are bidded on. They are trying their best for the best names with the biggest payouts they aren't stupid. It's a gamble yes but sooner or later you will luck up and have a big payout. I haven't had any problem getting names recently with them but I'm sure some fall through the cracks especially when you have your system fine tuned to only go after selected names.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention!

They got me a domain for $8.75 just the other day. I hope you weren't trying to get a .org domain because NameWinner isn't catching those right now.

I can only agree with what the others are saying.

* if they have another name to catch which will fetch them 1000 times as much money, don't be surprised =)

* If it was a .org then that is what happens

* If noone else has bid and there is no snap, I don't think it's such a big problem anyways. Just manual reg it

if you have to rely on NW for low profile names then you better learn how to catch names yourself....

do ppl really expect NW to concentrate on cheapy names?

If that is true (I am not doubting your word) then surely it would be fraudulent to accept bids on .org names!

I think it is true about .org and NW - I list dozens with them and they NEVER catch them. I end up picking most of them up hours later manually (if someone hasn't beaten me to them). I have no idea why they let you enter .ORGs because they will NOT catch them (at least at the lower price levels...and I haven't seen one at a higher price level either).

To clarify:

- No, it wasn't a .org, it was a .com

- I don't expect NW to give $8.95 names high priority of course but i do expect them to go after the name AT ALL.

- No, i don't HAVE to rely on NW for "low profile" names in general - but hey, first of all this is what i expect a drop service to do - go after a name..if it's like you never know if they go for your low bid name AT ALL what sense does it make to use their service for those names ?
Also, $8.95 names doesn't automatically mean "low profile", it could also mean a name that other people haven't discovered to be dropping - some of you might know a name that NW indeed got me several months ago for $8.95 which was a HUGE name.

- Yeah, as said NW got me $8.95 names in the past - just no use if they only go randomly after them as it seems to be the way now.

Again, what if you have found a GREAT name that maybe has a snap and such on it by someone else but you happen to be the only bidder at NW for whatever reason?

What a drag if you would have to outbid yourself on NW just to wake up NW to go for that name.

NW got 8 names for me in the past 2 months for $8.75 each. And I am pleased. On some high profile names Snapnames got the better of NW. Still , for $8.75 not a bad deal at all.
