Sedo,
just want to say publicly you are a joke. (most of us knew this on many levels for some time ;))

You allow people to list typos of tms, porn this, sex that but the word 'obama' is banned, not just from parking but listing for sale.

This is pathetic. I'm not saying people should list slanderous names etc but if you have pure generics like 'obamatalk.com' something like that for a chatboard, how can it not be listed???

After all, we live in a 'democracy' and if i want to built a site like this with a name like this , then i can. What's with being such fools?

I am also a big obama fan and would only have quality, positive domains.

I thought it was just another glitch at sedo when trying to add some names, but when it happened more than once,so I asked a rep.

A quote from the 'rep':

"Obama is a restricted term at Sedo as this is the president of the USA's name and we would not want a liable suit against us of this magnitute!"
............ :painkiller::ballchain:

You mean like the name I had years ago that they banned because it had the letters 'teen' in it and the EXACT SAME WORD in .de was being auctioned?

And I was told it would not be fair to halt an auction because of a questionable name.

Only not fair to Sedo to loose their commission.

Back to topic...

Perhaps this comes from a questionable site raised on here the other day with the name Obama.

There are currently 12 names that come up with o-b-a-m-a on sedo.

Also shows the brainpower of the average sedo employee these days.

Having to point out to me it was 'the name of the U.S President' Really?

Also, it's not a 'liable' claim, it's 'libel' or libellous, or would not want 'liability'.

Only not fair to Sedo to loose their commission.

Sedo sucks sweaty balls dude. They will let you park some political domains, but not others... They have the consistency of diarrhea after a bowl of oatmeal. Idiots run that company, and they can ban my parking account all day long. I'll take my $8 a month and buy myself a fukin' Hallmark card...

Hi all,

I asked our legal team about this, to try and clarify things. The response is as follows:

"We have had a policy in place for about a year now that we do not allow domain names that contain any candidate names because of the recent election year, new president, etc. and Sedo do not endorse any particular candidate, party and/or political issue"

They confirmed that they are still in the process of removing these domains, but as there are so many, it is an ongoing process.

I hope that this at least clears things up a bit.

Have a good weekend!

Tom

I can confirm Sedo *does* delete tm domains as long as the tm holder complains. Still, I don't understand the fuss with political domains, especially if they are not full names but compounds.

I think Raider and bd77 successfully petitioned sedo to remove all references to the man.

Hi Tom,
pretty stupid if you ask me.
Let's break it down:

"We have had a policy in place for about a year now that we do not allow domain names that contain any candidate names because of the recent election year, new president, etc.

why?
so that they can't have access to buy them lol? so they have to go via whois or other platforms?

and Sedo do not endorse any particular candidate, party and/or political issue"

no-one is saying you do. Asda don't endorse heinz baked beans. They sell about 20 types of beans, so there is choice and a level playing ground.
But if they stopped selling baked beans, because of a trumped up idea (no punn intended 'trump' means 'fart' in these parts ), but then went onto sell sextoys over the counter, some eyebrows would be raised.
Figuratively speaking : bdsm.com or sex.co.uk, anal.org etc over the counter.
Ring any bells Thomas and how stupid you guys look. Sex,drugs and rock and roll, you sell the lot. You only recently started to stop trademark domains, blatant ones. So why the panic over Mr.Obama?

They confirmed that they are still in the process of removing these domains, but as there are so many, it is an ongoing process.

The election is over. Obama won
So the process is ongoing because................?

So due to this logicl legal thinking, all political domains are being removed yes? Angela Merkel domains? No? You are a German company. Surely you aren't saying U.S. Politics are stand alone? If you are, we're all in a lot of trouble.

By the way I don't give a monkey's fart if I don't sell a domain on sedo, i moved to parked.com a LONG time ago and never looked back and have several sales platforms of my own. It was just the principle and overall continuing stupidity of sedo that needed to be pointed out.
