http://domaingang.com/domain-news/c...ds-domains-when-comics-can-sell-for-millions/

Nice to see that some domainers get the importance of this story. I have seen my comic book collection go up 10-fold since I started collecting in 1987.

Always buy the best of the best, and you will be rewarded.

As I have said previously, do NOT buy Spiderman 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 ,7 ,8 ,9 or any other number. Buy the # 1. Buy the best of the best.

Always be ready to trade UP.

Same rule applies to domain names.

to get your hands on something precious, it will cost. Domains are the same, you spend more to make more. Unless you get lucky and find a comic for dirt cheap at a yard sale! your not going to flip a comic for a million.

Unfortunately Domains don't end up in yard sales for dirt cheap either! Rick is better off flipping domains.

I have known lil Stephen Fischler since the 80's. He is a master promoter. He knows the comic book hobby in/out. He was flipping Amazing Spiderman # 1's for $1,000 when everybody else was asking $250. He was locating the original comic book art when everybody said it was worthless. Now he is basically just a broker. He knows where all the pedigree books are - Mile High, Larson, White Mountain, Denver, Spokane, etc. He just connects buyers with the books. Has a good inventory too. The guy is the Rick Schwartz of comic books.

Years ago I had a collection of my own, the best of the best. One day I decide to look over my collection and guess what, no where to be found. Until today I'm not sure how my collection went missing. I spend a good chunk of time and money to put the list together.

Anything collectible could be sold to the highest bidder. Like life its all about timing! Luck comes in many forms!

Heavy Metal magazine.... I remember those. I know your type now Acro ;) Pristine copies you say? Ha.My first job was in a comic book store. Best job ever. Worked from age 13-17 in the store. Did all the big shows. It was like working for the NYSE as a market maker.I have seen vintage collections discovered. I have seen the uninformed sell their precious gems for pennies. I have seen the savy buy on the cheap. I have seen the entire comic book market rise and I have seen the same markets fall when the modern age bubble poped in 1993. I have seen hot comics jump from $1.00 cover price to hundreds of dollars on the same day. I have seen the Dan Diego show go from a fringe collection of nerds to a multi-million dollar show where it is now fashionable to be "geek sheek". I have seen fortunes made. And even more fortunes lost.Domain names are no different. All markets follow the same rhythym

Yeah :) I was fortunate to buy 20 years worth of back issues in near mint condition on eBay, ten years ago. Fiction, fantasy, science fiction is all good. I just can't get into the Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Hulk etc. culture. But I like the movies.

The superheros is where the money is !!!! And like domain names, if you know the industry, you can make BOFO bucks.

Although comic books are kinda "toppy" if you know the right books, inflation will do the heavy lifting

Even more lucrative is the original comic art book market. This was non existent when I entered in the 1980's because there was no price guide like for comic books. And the market is still very cheap in my opinion to enter. $300,000 can get you a comic book cover of Batman from the 1940's drawn by Bob Kane or $200,000 cn get you a Ditko Spiderman cover from the 1960's. These prices are gonna seem cheap in 20-30 years.

They are like undiscovered "Warhols" or "Lichtensteins" that capture the Zeitgeist of 20th century America.

I collected comic books in the 80's but sold them all off by the late 90's. Had the first appearance of Wolverine in Hulk 180/81/82. This past weekend I just saw Amazing Spiderman #300 selling for $110 in a store, I remember buying a bunch of them for cover price. Still like comics but the problem with them is grading and keeping them in good condition. You have to worry about pages yellowing, ripping, creases, etc. If I bought comics again I'd focus on the oldest, rarest ones I could afford, they always hold their value. Spiderman, X-men, Batman, Superman, etc.
