There just trying to jump-start the market that will fall through anyway.

Who in there right minds would pay that much for a domain like that.
Mark my words the regs will get to 5-6 mill in the next year, then the big downfall of expired unused and "unvisited" domains. Every country has its own cctld thats already really marketed in their respected countries, but thing is they cant get their countries working together (UK is still on Pound Sterling) and how will they get the French, Germans e.t.c... to combine into one zone. .EU will be visited only by domainers.

i agree. the .eu is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overhyped. i haven't registered a single one and don't plan on it.

i can't imagine too many germans going to .eu or the french going there either. especially something like onlinecasino.eu. they'll go to whatever the term is in their NATIVE language and then they'll put .fr or .de as the ccTLD, not .eu. americans won't go to .eu domains (especially those casino related) because they won't trust them. why goto onlinecasino.eu when you can go to onlinecasino.com.

this whole thing with .eu was just blown up. even the crap .coms I own have the .eu taken. what a waste...

Agreed :) EU is extremely divided, .eu will only work for EU institutions or EU non-gov. organizations. Something similar to .gov

They should have never allowed it to be opened to individuals or companies. Its a crooked registry.

Crooked indeed. The fact that thousands of "corporations" formed when the .eu was announced with immediate intent to grab related trademarks so that they don't have to wait in line to register some potentially valuable domain tells you that something don't smell right (the fact that this was allowed by the registry).

I don't know how the .EU will survive when the majority of online sales comes from American consumers...

To some the domain .eu is antagonistic too because it's saying that the website is for Europeans only.

The whole thing with ccTlds has gone way too far.

.eu is not a ccTLD. It is a gTLD and a very popular one at that. IMO, the OnlineCasino.eu sale will prove to be an absolute bargain for the buyer in the coming years.

I am not so sure its bull, if a company wants to establish a generic online casino that they will also back with add dollars with a european base that will use eros as currency

Right, there is no question it is one of the better .eu casino domains. I think it will prove to be a worthwhile investment to the buyer.

EU is a phase that will pass and eventually disappear into the "that other tld" category. The only hype is the temprary one made by the ones that already reg'ed them.

When I join a casino affiliate program, I get asked questions by the affiliate director. Questions like.....Is your traffic mostly American or EUROPEAN?
I also ask questions like....Does your casino accept US $ only or EURO also?

Perhaps if the European Union were to fail one day then .eu 'might' go down also. Otherwise, .eu is here to stay. Personally, I think the values will fluctuate over 4 to 5 years. Then I see an uphill trend. Perhaps never like .com's but there will be money to be made.

An Australian friend recently told me he was going to 'EUROPE' for business. The only country he went to was the Netherland. We have the European Union. We have European Cup. We have the Euro. We have the Americans saying ... 'them Europeans'.

However, I also believe there is an overly zealous .eu speculators who are creating a hype.

In the end, there will be money in .eu.

Definitely there was a hype about this .eu gtld but it is too early to call it a failure. Whatever the political integration of the Union might take place in the near future to forge a single united entity will decide the fate of .eu. But if things remain as they are, divided as we are, the is not much potential in the extension.

I already have expressed my opinion but I`m happy to repeat:

.eu is a ccTLD exactly like .us

The problem is that we first had the States ( imagine California .cali , Texas .txs , New York .NYK and so on) and we had already the States extensions (.de , .it , .nl , .fr , .at ...) and now that they created .eu is like a double unconfortable existence. They created things in an caos, they had to think about this when they were creating .ccTLDs and once .eu were created they had to take out the single .it , .de , .fr, .at....etc. giving rights to register for example ABC.eu to who had already ABC.it or ABC.de making a draw where there were more than one applicant with the same rights due to different ccTLD exte but same word.
That was the best solution.
.US does not have this problem only because you first made one single Country and then internet but this is an issue that will come again in the future whenever one or more Countries change or if they slit or they become one.....it happened many times in the last years with the ex Yugoslavia, with Ceck Republic, with USSR , and others. What is goint to happen then?
This issue is the real threat to ccTLDs.
I bet not many people thought about this.
And I bet ICANN play golf instead of working about this and other issues.

What would onlinecasino.com be worth? Certainly a factor or 2 more then onlinecasino.eu went for.

Is onlinecasino.eu worth 45k now? Probably not. But if you could go back and buy onlinecasino.com in 1995 for 45k would you do it?

If Europe is so divided why is Euro getting stronger? Perhaps we should go back to Francs and Kroners.....Let's just dissolve European Union.

In a fast changing economy with some Asian and South American countries coming up fast Europe divided into countries makes sense only for the World Cup and alike. When it comes to business "united we stand".

.com is the king because most people (non-domainers) can only think in .com. But as the number of parked pages in .com increases and the number the sheer unavailability of good domains in .com's increase the other '.whatever' are going to be looked into.

With the use of internet increasing dramatically every year, the number of domains needed should also increase.

I think....
Of course, who knows what the future holds.

first thing to do is to spread the control of the internet worldwide and not in the "Icann hands" only otherwise China will make a war

So someone has money to burn. Maybe not that expensive if you are starting a euro casino as an end user. I would rather www.casino.eu but maybe it has been taken!? There is some history on dnforum about this domain name. I think the Americans bought it by setting up a UK company but please dont quote me on that! Creature

After hearing of the sale of onlinecasino.eu and the Uk's deputy PM John Prescott's so called meeting with the billionair discussing a super casino. My expectations of my domain onlinesupercasino.eu rocketed, but after reading these posts my expectations have been brought back down to earth.
As for .eu domains i hope and believe that the will be second only to .com in years to come as soon as in my oppinion the EU becomes a super state the .eu domain will be a great investment but this may take a decade or two, but he who dares wins
