chess.net = lots (not going to get any more specific than that since it's irrelevant)

ehec.net = next to nothing

Great, one-word .NET. I can envision an "interactive" site where chess players hang out and compete, talk chess, etc. Lovely concept ... but this will require development ($$) extraordinaire!
.NET's to not capture much traffic, but it will work well in the SE's ... I like the chances for this domain, though just because it's a single word ... it is not a single word .COM! This is important to remember ... especially with undeveloped valuations.
Good Luck.

Chess.net - I would give the just the domain a value of 5k-10k.

If developed and you have a strong traffic base - $$$$$$

Atlach, you probably know that chess.net is a well-developed site where thousands of people go to play chess .... hence, the domain is probably worth low five figures. But unless someone wants to develop a similar website in French, echec.net has little value. (Anyway, I thought the word was echecs, not echec.)

mindful -- I like your valuation system a lot. However, I don't know how well it takes into account any sites that had been developed with that domain name. Since chess.net has/had thousands of very active members, surely that would increase the domain's value to well beyond $1,350, no?

(Of course, that doesn't bear on the original topic of this post, echec.net, which I believe has very little value.)

Good point!

But it is what it is. It's ONLY a domain tracker / appraisal tool, not a business appraisal tool.

Domain appraisals are easy, hence easily modelled in excel. Businesses for sale are tougher. Too many factors go into play when selling, buying, or appraising a business to use a simple tool for valuation, especially in this economy.
