My entire city (Nashville), county and surrounding counties are out of gas. People fighting and police officers having to direct traffic into gas stations and around the backed up traffic. Heading home from work tonight on the main road through downtown traffic was backed up three lanes wide for two city blocks from people trying to get gas. Cars pushed off to the side of the road that ran out of gas trying to get gas. I drove from one side of town to another passing probably 20 gas stations along the way and 3 had gas and those had hundreds of cars trying to get in. I wish I had my camera with me it was crazy. Almost like you see on the news in the Houston area. I've got one more days worth of gas to work on and I'm on forced vacation. Anyone else having gas problems in the US?

(CNN) -- Call it a self-fulfilling prophecy: An estimated three-fourths of gas stations in the Nashville, Tennessee, area ran dry Friday, victim of an apparent rumor that the city was running out of gas. Officials said panic regarding a rumor of a lack of gas caused customers to to rush to the pumps. "Everybody has just gone nuts," said Mike Williams, executive director of the Tennessee Petroleum Council. He said he has no idea about the origin of a rumor that there was going to be no gas in Nashville. One reporter called him, saying she had heard that Nashville would be without gas within the hour, he said. Hearing the rumor, drivers rushed to fill their cars and trucks...

Yeah it is/was a panic run. It's now causing real problems. Travelers are getting stuck here because they can't get gas. And people like me who wasn't aware of the "panic mode" until it was too late are going to be stuck at home. My usual gas stop has a sign up saying they have no idea when they'll get more.

There is an actual shortage though and someone was aware of it because they just brought 3 barges in from the gulf today and if you know how slowly those move it's probably been in transit for a week.

Damn.
Sorry to hear that.
Some form of domino effect will be worse, I guess.

Orson Wells couldn't have done it better...

Rumours like this are ALWAYS spread by a news media that doesn't bother fact checking.
Sounds like your local council should be looking into their bylaws and seeing if they've got anything about incitement.

Down under, there are some insanely large fines for mass distribution of false material that leads to unrest.

It's all over the south now not just here. It's because the pipeline feeding the south is running at 25% capacity due to Ike.
