Hi,

Can someone advise me what to do please. In another forum (which will remain annonymous for now) i was given 2 infraction points for posting in the wrong thread. I double checked and confirmed i had posted in the correct thread. Here is the message i was sent from the moderator ......

Dear ********,

You have received an infraction at *********.

Reason: Posting In The Wrong Forum: Please post threads in the proper forum. This infraction is worth 2 point(s) and may result in restricted access until it expires. Serious infractions will never expire.

I then sent the following message to the moderator who issued the infraction points.................

Hi *******,

The post was in the external auctions section. I have just looked and most of the threads in the external auction have links to sedo auctions, so not sure why i have been given a warning?

Can you advise please?

Kind regards

The moderator then replied back saying ...................

It has been moved to external auctions.

Was posted in another marketplace section.

I then replied back ...........................

Hi *******,

I was very careful to post it in the correct thread (external auctions) today after i was given a friendly warning last week for posting it in the wrong thread. Can you double check please, as it looks like this is duplicate warning for the same post i was given a friendly warning for, and let me know.

Kind regards

The moderator then replied .............................

Please take it up with management.

Your post was in the wrong section.

I really dont have the time or inclination to provide any further info.

I then replied ..................................

OK. Since you quote ''really dont have the time or inclination to provide any further info'' can please provide me with the contact details of a member of management who does have the time and inclination to provide further info, as i am 100% positive that i posted it in the correct thread.

Kind regards

The moderator then replied.........................

Dear ********,

You have received an infraction at ********.

Reason: Politeness Offense: Please review the site rules about courtesy. Violation of forum rule 1.1
-------
Arguing with infraction awarded.
-------

This infraction is worth 5 point(s) and may result in restricted access until it expires. Serious infractions will never expire.

All the best,
**********

Sounds like that moderator was having a bad day or just wasn't in the mood to deal with anything. You were in the right, but unfortunately that doesn't really matter. I'd leave it as is, wait for the infraction to expire, and move on.

Thanks Stephe,

I was tempted to tell the guy what i thought of him, but decided to post the conversation here just to get other domainers opinions.

Your right, best just to let it go now as any further reply from me will only increase my chances of being barred from that forum.

Kind regards

Sorry to learn about your being unfairly treated in another forum. As a forum "lustee", I have been frequenting quite a few forums on a daily basis (if not hourly). My experience is that MANY (if not most) moderators do not act professionally, partly perhaps because they are just "volunteers" (i.e. not paid).

I had my share of that (being treated unfairly) on another domain forum. I knew it was coming from at least one of the 3 owners, so I simply walked away. There's no point arguing at all.

In another case, I was wronged by a moderator on a non-domain/hosting forum. I PMed the owner, whom I thought was a fair guy (judging from his posts). And fair he was. That lousy moderator later left, and I keep browsing and posting there.

well...

i know that here on dnf, when you have posted names for appraisal and if they get sent to auction at sedo, you have posted the link to that auction in your appraisal threads.

this is against forum rules, and your threads have been closed and warnings sent.

i know once i commented in one of your appraisal threads and when the name went to auction, you sent me a pm with a link to that auction.

i never expressed any interest in buying your domain in that appraisal thread, yet you took the liberty to send me unsolicited pm

so from our perspective...maybe you keep trying to find loopholes and finally got caught.

imo...

@Don: Fair play.

@condoleezza: I bet I know which forum this is. This is not an invitation to post it, but I can tell by the attitude. At least here on DNF you'll get a fair hearing. I don't go to the 'other' place any more. Banned anyway :D

Yes i agree. DNF are much more understanding and are much more polite.

What annoyed me about the other forum moderator was he was the one who used the words first that i quoted in my reply to him and then he gave me another 5 infraction points for being impolite. The guy obviously thinks that when he uses the words to domainers its polite, but when the exact same words are used by a domainer to him, they are being impolite. More a case of him being all high and mighty, a bit power crazy, and not good at his job. IMO

can't say who was right or wrong, but when looking at track records, "the benefit of doubt" is most often given to those who violate less than more.

we/i try to be polite and understanding, but habitual violators can "push the envelope of patience" for staff at any forum.

not saying you are habitual violator, but if a mod can remember offhand the last few times you've posted outside of forum guidelines, then you're more likely to get the max penalty when they come down on you.

the trick is to stay under the radar if you're a heavy poster and ensure that you are complying with forum rules in every instance.

what i don't get is why people post here on dnf when they get banned from other forums.

if i got banned from another forum, i'd think it would be best to keep it to myself....

i wouldn't want that crap to come up later in another thread down the road.

imo...
