I have often wondered if overture.com could tell me how much type-in traffic my domain would get.

What I mean is at OV I did a search for 'affordable web hosting' and it gets about 300 searches per day. What do you think the amount of type-in traffic to 'affordablewebhosting.com' per day would be? I would think about 5%. This would make a great study in my opinion.

Ofcourse it would not always work. Sex at OV gets searched 95,000 per day. I would think sex.com gets more. (easily). The largest tgp thehun.com gets 1.15 million per day.

Part of it is going to be science, what get the most hits, what's in a .com, what's ear catchy, but then there is the what tickles the fancy portion, and it hard to know what's going to appeal to who at the right time.

But I like the thinking behind this. Like to know how it works out.

I think any discussion on the "OFVM" (Overture Fetish Valuation Model) is a good thing ... but NOT here in the appraisal section! Thanks. Good Luck.

My First Post :)

From my experience,I would say the shorter the name is, the more type ins it will get.

3+ word searches, are more likely to be typed in the Search Engines.

I actually have checked this by looking at peoples web stats.

I checked about 10 different sites, and they averaged 8-22% Direct requests.Which isn't bad for just owning the domain.

With about 50-60% coming from Search Engines, and the rest from sites that link to them.

Google being the biggest source of traffic.

Note, that these sites were in the top 20 of google for that search term,so the % of type-in traffic is actually not too bad.
