Say you got a chance to grab some domains either with an alexa ranking(in the millions) or an overture score of say 25 above.

Which one would generate the most traffic ?? overture or alexa ??

What you're asking doesn't make sense.

Alexa ranks websites - if xdomain.com has Alexa rank of 50,000 it doesn't mean that xdomain.ext will get anything. Also, with alexa, the lower the figure the better.

Overture tracks domains and keywords, here you need as high a figure as possible.

When buying domains, Overture is helpful (if you can get ity to work!).

If you are buying a current website, Alexa can be helpful.

I believe you're asking: "which is a better proxy for traffic: Alexa ranking or Overture with extension?"

Answer: Neither are very good metrics, and they are measuring different phenomena. In general, OVT w/ext is a more reliable indicator of direct-nav traffic potential, and so is probably more highly correlated with "pure" domain values than Alexa, which can be driven by link-pop and is easily gamed. Intuition plays a key role here: if the name is long and unintuitive, it probably isn't going to hold up either metric after a few months.
