Hello DNF members,
I am hoping to get some general information and a question or two answered regarding selling names here at DNForum.

I am located in the USA and noticed many users mention moneybookers. As you may already know, they don't allow customers (at least for receiving funds) from the USA.

- which payment methods are preferred among the buyers here? And also, are there payment methods that buyers just refuse to send funds through? Resulting in no offers/bids from your listing...

The second question above is asked mainly because I have always used escrow.com or wire transfer/bank draft so I am not too familiar with the other services.

My last question would be, what are common do's and dont's when listing domains here at DNForum?

I would greatly appreciate any insight/feedback on these questions.

Please feel free to PM if needed.

Thanks for any help!

Hi Juan and welcome to the best domain community on earth. ;)

The most widely used and accepted payment methods on DNF are PayPal and wire/Escrow.com or EscrowDNS.com. My personal recommendation is to stick with EscrowDNS.com / Escrow.com, unless you are dealing with a highly reputed member or someone you know. There are way too many ways to get scammed sending and receiving PayPal payments. E.g. a buyer can pay you with PayPal, you push the domain to his account, then he files a PayPal dispute claiming he did not receive the domain name. People can also fund purchases using stolen PayPal accounts/credit cards, which will eventually lead to you losing your domain.

Based on my personal experience though, DNF is definitely the safest domain forum to trade on, compared to other established forums out there, but you still need to pay attention to who you're dealing with and what methods you're using.

When it comes to do's and don'ts; the first thing you should do is read the sticky rules for each forum section before you post any domains for sale and also read the best practices listed here.

I see you have already become a verified member, which is great for building trust as you haven't yet built up a strong reputation here on DNF.

If you are new to domaining, I would also recommend you to browse through the forums, reading posts and sucking up knowledge, as there are a lot of great information here which will sure help you and your business. Also, a great thing about DNF is that it's full of helpful and friendly domainers, so don't be afraid to ask if you have any questions.

Good luck! :)

I mostly use PayPal and Escrow.com or Wire Transfers... depending on $$$ amount and if you know the person.

Good Luck,

- Paypal for established members - It is a good practice to get the address and phone number to make a phone call before starting the negotiation process.

- Ask buyer if he/she is willing to wait for up to 48 hours before pushing the name to make sure that there is no issue with payment. Most buyers would be ok with this arrangement.

Agreed. Paypal is most preferred. Based on the size of the transaction decide to use excrow services.

Please make sure to do all your homework on the buyer or seller when conducting business with he/she. Make sure you you get all the information you can from theuser, speak directly on the phone with them (You call them), conduct whois searches on the domain you are buying if you are the buyer and make sure you dont see any weird or suspicious activity.

Thanks everyone, for all the great information.

Help and answers to questions like these are priceless. The alternative would be to learn on the fly, burn up loads of time (most of us in business know that very important equation: Time = $$$), and risk the loss of potential sells.

..Let the journey continue..!

Thanks!

Yep, Paypal is an absolute must.
Wire is good but you shouldn't expect any buyer to go for that until you have built up a good rep.

On the flipside, some merchants should not be mentioned AT ALL as they have very negative connotations such as E-Gold, which has had bed press as a venue used by scammers, I hear.
