I hate Paypal but I'm forced to use them because they are a monopoly.
They've ripped me out of thousands of dollars.

I can't send money to anyone unless I've paid them before. No matter what email address I enter, I get this error: Email Address: Please enter a valid address in the format [email protected]. I tried switching browsers.

Their drill down support reporting system didn't have any option close to this so I had to put it under another category.

Is anyone else having the same problem?

So far no issue with me since I open my account with paypal.

Though I also open Google Checkout as alternative payment solution.

Regards,
Em

I figured it out. I pasted the email address. When I typed the email address it worked. I don't mind creating a post to dog Paypal.

Yea I was going to type that. They no longer allow copy and paste. If you do copy and paste all you have to do is backspace the last letter in the email address and then type it in and it will work fine.

They just implemented this security last week. You have to actually type the email address. Cut and paste will not work (it works if you cut and paste into a notepad file and cut and paste again to paypal.

Cut and paste will work if you backspace the last letter of the email address and just type it in.

so like [email protected] you would just take off the m and type it back in and it works.

Are you guys doing a cut and paste from Excel? If so, you'll end with an extra "garbage" character that shows as a space when you paste in your browser (may also be true with other Ms-Office tools such as Word, etc.). If you backspace over/delete this garbage/blank space, you should be good. You can also eliminate by first pasting into Notepad, and then copying from Notepad and pasting into your browser.

Doesn't matter what you copy and paste from there will not allow it. Says its an invalid email address. I tried several different things. But as I stated by simply backspacing a single letter and retyping it will fix the error.

How is that security?

Much better chance of error not pasting.
It's security because if you're smart you can code a virus which will run macros and cron jobs.
You can remotely open up a browser minimized-to-tray, or running on a portion of secondary/tertiary screen, so that the person sitting at the computer can't see it, then copy and paste your details and send yourself money from someone else's account and pay yourself.
If the end user is forced to type in a name, it's a lot more difficult for a remote 3rd party to tamper with it, because individual keystrokes are more difficult to place unnoticed than a paste function.

This is an amazingly simplified version of the process, and it is both technically more difficult and requires more steps to get the money safely away from the account, but it's not only more than possible, it's been done to the tune of about $6m in the last financial year.
