Ok, so let me break down just what happened...

- I've been trying to gamble online for some time now (save the commentary about the act of online gambling itself)
- Paypal isn't compliant, in that they don't facilitate online gambling transactions
- Ditto for my credit card issuer
- It makes me feel helpless, dead in the water, really, to think that something which is legal to do, and which I can afford, cannot be done. I'm too used to living in a free country to put up with this as though it's a tolerable thing
- So, on this one poker room, they offered numerous alternate payment methods, none of which I had heard of
- I was also not particularly inclined to go through the whole sign-up process, which would also include "approvals" and the like. Which is only a natural thing, considering that financial services of all sorts are subject to regulation, by virtue of which, the meticulous maintenance of records is an absolute must
- Then, I became aware of a thing called "ukash" - where you purchase a voucher for cash, and then said voucher can be applied towards a purchase from a merchant who accepts "ukash", so that no financial details need to be disclosed
- So, thinking I could buy these with paypal, since I'd prefer to use paypal cash than to put this on my credit card, I googled "buy ukash online"
- And wouldn't you know it, an outfit by the name of "PC game supply" does, indeed offer this, to the point that they bought google adwords for them to be right at the top
- A very finely executed adwords campaign on their part, by the way. Perfectly targeted a very "ready" search, such as this.
- So, I tried to buy a $25 voucher. There was a service fee of $5.99 or so. But I didn't care. I just wanted this over with.
- Transaction went through, and they said they need up to 30 minutes to process this. Which is cool; you have to generate a code from some other source, I totally understand that.
- Then, they released the pre-authorization on my paypal account, and cancelled the transaction, per the following email;

[h=3]Hello Maxwell,[/h]While we made every effort possible to approve your transaction we were unable to verify the details of this transaction and your order #500519634 has been cancelled. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Please be aware you were only Pre-Authorized for this transaction, you were not charged for this transaction. The pre-authorization for this transaction has been voided.

- Thinking to myself "what is this?!", I replied with the following;

Hi there

I'm so sorry to hear that the details of the transaction could not be confirmed.

If you could please tell me what the matter was, I'd be glad to comply in getting this taken care of.

Maxwell

- They said...

Greetings,

Due to security reasons your order has not passed verification, and as a result has been cancelled. Please be aware that upon cancellation your payment is voided, this however can take PayPal 1 business day to complete. Due to these security flags being tied directly to our Anti-Fraud system we are unable to provide in depth details.

Thank You

- I replied with...

Hi, Kevin

I understand that there are verification related issues, but please understand that I am entirely willing to do what it takes in order to facilitate verification.

My paypal account is verified, the funds are there, and I have held that account for nearly a year and a half now.

Please let me know what I have to do in order to pass verification.

Maxwell

- They then said...

Greetings,

Unfortunately due to issues on the account we are unable to process any orders.

(I'd say by now it's rather clear that the account is the last thing they have to worry about having issues with!)

- I replied with...

I'm sorry, you're not making it clear to me as to just what it is that's the matter.

My paypal account has the funds in it. It is verified to a valid mailing address, and has a credit card attached to it.

I'd like to do business with you guys. Tell me what I have to do to pay you for the ukash card.

- Them:

Greetings,

Due to security reasons your order has not passed verification, and as a result has been canceled. Please be aware that upon cancellation your pre authorized payment has been voided. Most financial institutions can take up to 3-5 business days to process this transaction, for further support i would advise contacting your financial institution.

Thank You

- Me:

How can that be, when it is YOUR verification procedures are the thing which is inhibiting my ability to proceed with this transaction?

What do you want? A verification phone call? Alternate method of payment? Tell me. It's done.

- Them:

Greetings,

We do not provide information on our verification process as it will provide information on how to circumvent the system we have in place. I would advise if you wish to replace an order to verify all information is valid, and that no information is being hidden or blocked.

Thank You

- Me:

This is not a matter of circumvention. This is a matter of me trying to do business with you guys, and you not allowing me to pay you.

This is UNHEARD OF in the business world.

I'll give you one more opportunity to have you tell me how you can take my money.

Maxwell

- Them:

Dear Customer,

Please be aware Pcgamesupply.com does not officially charge credit cards or Paypal accounts until your order has been approved and delivered. As your order was canceled we have not charged your credit card or Paypal account.

You will notice a pending or pre authorized payment on your credit card statement, note this is not an official charge and will be removed within 3-5 business days.

If you have any questions concerning the pending or pre authorized charge on your statement please contact your bank or credit card.

Thank you,
The Pcgamesupply.com Team

(It's rather obvious I'm just talking to a computer, but that reply makes NO sense at all!)

- Then, finally, from me...

You are evidently incapable of addressing the concerns of a customer who not only wants to give you business, but who has also given you the utmost patience.

Don't bother with this order. You've lost my business, and you'll lose the business of many others as I will use my influential position on the internet to write posts to say "do not use pcgamesupply.com".

When you run a business, you take peoples' money so you can provide them with a product or a service. You can't take my money; therefore, you are not a business, and it's shameful that you pass yourselves off as one.

(Of course, I was bluffing about being at all influential - but hopefully this posting does the job!)

So, I said screw it, went to 7/11, bought a prepaid mastercard, and got on with a poker game which I am playing now.

I'm not saying they're a scam, or not legitimate, but I'm just saying do not use them, because you're only setting yourself up for disappointment when they don't take your money as you would like them to.

I have a CIBC visa and have never had any problems putting money on a poker site (pokerstars) but with what you’ve described here you have to ask yourself…if you have to jump through all these hoops to get money on the site, imagine what would happen if you won big and tried to cash-out?

My visa is with RBC. They are such a lousy bank, this being one of the reasons for it, in that they won't do online gambling transactions.

Did you know they thought I was an immigrant, by the way? Somehow, my Ontario birth certificate didn't make that clear to them.

I'm not concerned about getting the money out. As I understand it, a payout can be issued in many ways, to include a cheque or a wire transfer.

But that's the poker site's concern. Who I am having issues with in this case is the ukash vendor, entirely unrelated to the online casino.
