What is the normal process for the deletion cycle?

Sites goes from Active to Pending Redemption to Pending Delete??

So after sites go to Pending Redemption, it takes about 30-45 days before it goes to Pending Delete? And then takes about 6 days before it we can register the domain?

The question I want to know is when domains goes to Pending Redemption status, IS THE SITE ACCESSIBLE? Meaning can somebody type the url in the address bar and access the site? What about the Pending Delete status. Is the site accessible then?

thanks,

Mike

The proper status should be "Redemption Period" which is EXACTLY 30 days in length; after that, the name goes into "Pending Delete" and will be released on the 6th day. The RGP (Redemption Grace Period) is designed to "ensure notice to the registrant that the name is subject to deletion" by removing the name from the zone. In other words, it will not resolve (meaning no website nor e-mail).

Once a name enters PENDING DELETE status it cannot be renewed by the former owner.

I've seen NSI names go from PD to Active. :cool:

I haven't seen that since the introduction of the new delete process.

Registrar-Hold => RedemptionPeriod => PendingDelete

The name was probably in Registrar-Hold for a while. It's an NSI
name which would also explain the 121 expiration day and
anything else that might be screwed up.

Please don't forget registrars' OWN grace periods which shouldn't exceed 45 days (or they won't get their refund). AND very often, registrars do NOT deactivate expired names, so their status remains "Active" until going into "Redemption Period".
