A large website I have is www.homestaging.com
What I fail to understand is how people can miss where to sign up for the directory at ?
I truly believe people just do not use common sense.
Check out what I mean here.
How many different areas do you need for someone to sign up ???
I mean seriously ?!

I get at least 2-3 emails per week on where to sign up and that doesnt include the directory which says "Create An Account"

http://www.homestaging.com/test/hs.JPG

The red circles are where they can sign up and obviously the GIANT SIGN UP button gives this away

lol. May be you should include a how to video or something social networky to attract user attention. But that will only make you look silly.

Yes they are. ...but their money still spends, so the fault is yours if you don't cater to them. Not to sound harsh, this is exactly what I tell my self when I get those kind of e-mails (with 3 big "Sign up" buttons on the main page!!!) and catch myself thinking the same thing you did. But, when you think about how only a small percentage of the people that get lost actually e-mail you and tell you that, you start to imagine what your conversion numbers would be if they didn't get lost, and realize that stupid or not it would be insane not to help them along.

After all, what percentage do you think actually e-mails you? 10% I think would be high...which would make 2 e-mails per day an indication of 20+ people not viewing the sign up page that would have otherwise, and may have actually signed up.

Try being more specific. I saw the spots you circled, but you know this because you did it. Looking, there is only one actual "Sign up" place that most would notice. Maybe say it differently in different places so it doesn't look like repetition to anyone not comatose. For example, maybe "List your business now!" instead of just sign up...sign up as a user, list your business, what? ...leave no room for translation or expected intelligence!!! The only requirement should be a very loose understanding of English, and that's only out of obligation.

Look, its like this forum...nobody reads or pays attention.

The only way you could make it easier on them is to go to their house, ask them to get up from their seat at the computer, and do the sign up for them.

Ah yes, I signed up over 100 people in less than 2 months, I answer all email politely and correctly
I have been in business over 15 years on the internet , so I have dealt with many of these people ALOT!

However, you cannot keep changing when the majority find everything easily
You have to cator to the majority and answer the others
There is no room for confusion
I use all terms
Add you business, sign up, pricing, advertising and that doesnt even include the directory that says create a account
I am pretty sure all that is covered, but thanks for the opinion

DC as usual , I depend on your valued opinion:)
By the way I have changed things 3 times on there, Its amazing that out of the 115 people I have signed up, the 3 that couldnt figure it out kill me

Years ago, my wife-to-be and I went to City Hall to get our marriage license. We walked in, looked around, felt lost ... and asked a guard where to go for a marriage license. He pointed down the hallway to a huge, impossible-to-miss sign that said "MARRIAGE LICENSES". So whenever we see anyone not noticing something obvious, we turn to each other and say "Marriage licenses!" Your post reminded me of that.

(BTW, the headline on your homepage is missing an apostrophe; it should say "Home Staging - It's the perfect fit." I would also capitalize Perfect and Fit, but that's a matter of taste.) (Ah - I just noticed that the apostophe and capitalization are present in the logo at the top of the page, so they should definitely be in the headline so they match!)

People aren't lazy, they are simply confused.

Too much information.

When you want to make people click on an image, it has to look like a call to action. It can't simply say "Home Staging Directory" or even "Directory Sign up".

Such CTA images need to look like clickable buttons, when presented on a web site that contains information. They often need to contain the prompt "Click here!" or other direct, short and prompting verbs. They can't look like decorative headings.

I agree with this ... you have circled to show us where you have sign ups... Even at that if you look at them closely, its not clear you are offering them to sign up or add a listing to your directory. JMO

You can also use the heat map feature of Google Analytics to find out where do people click the most.

I missed your sign to the left also. I think its the choice of colors and the way the lay out is. There are 3 major things that stands out and those are the "house" picture in Home, The Big Blue Staging, and the Directory sign to the right.

The problem is, people have gotten used to a certain lay out or color scheme or schema for A "sign up" button. Yours is blended in almost like an ad. The Sign Up button should be what stands out more then anything.

People are lazy, but they also don't want to waste time so lets not put more distractions in lazy people's time because that messes with the bottom line. Just my 2 cents.

The reason it ws done like that is because of the various things people will look at in order to find what they want in particular
but you do not want to overdue the purpose by this because its there for CLIENTS to find the stagers and not suppose to be ALL ABOUT the stagers if you know what I mean, which I am sure you do
Thank You

I have had a great response on this site and already am receiving serious offers to sell as its the largest real estate side industry in the us today
They have increased revenues of over 125% in just 2 years in their homestaging market

Have already done that, didnt work. I changed it to this way and increased my sign ups by 50% in less than 2 weeks. However, I agree with Acro on the click here part and that is what I am changing it back too.
But thank you

Did that and its the directory which also has a Create an Account link that the map showed.
Thank You
After I change the button I am on to other things in the directory.
You just cant please everyone, so I will have to stick with the majority

Alternatively, you can make the entire page an image so no matter where they click they are forced to sign up :D j/k

I think I will put my new saying as a whole image. "Don't Touch My Junk" then you are guaranteed they will click it !
