This one doesn't need much explanation. Can cover cameras, processing, display of photos etc. Gone in all extensions including most weird country codes. .US limits it today, but a few years from now?

You are right. I would get it in a heartbeat. Generic and simple and the .US doesn't muddle the message. Very nice.

Any thoughts about early .US market indications?

I've only heard reports of a few .US sales, almost all $500 or less (usually considerably less). I see no point at all in trying to sell them at this point in time. .US is extremely new of course (just debuted April 24) so I think it will be another year or two before we see many sales reports. .INFO is just a little older and is already getting there with a lot of reported sales.

Right nowI would just like to pick up some solid names that are suitable to the large U.S. market and try to develop them.
Bidawinner has been doing that and I think that is a sound strategy. Each developed site helps make the public more familiar with the extension, so you increase the value of your names to some degree with each one you put online. A few years from now I am hopeful there will be a nice harvest from the seeds sown today.

I agree with you about making some sort of site with some type of content or information being the best way for the names. Good way to promote the extensions and make money. I think the important thing is to provide some sort of information (content) in the midsts of the affiliate links. This is what I've learned. I'm sure for others its like duh!

I've found .us to be a good typein getter, or maybe its just because some names get more typeins - not sure.

Is it just me or is this the week eveybody wants to make an offer?

There is a pending tm on photocenter but hopefully nothing to worry about.

I think the attorneys who have posted here have already pointed out that names registered before the granting of a trademark are safe. Looks like I was the last one in the water as all the other extensions were already registered.

I can't believe a trademark would be granted on photocenter for general usage anyhow. Both are totally generic words and there are hundreds of businesses already in place with photo center in their names.

I just checked the trademark and there is only one live trademark by UMAX that is limited to this use:

"computer software displaying, modifying and printing images from digital cameras" - in other words a specific software program they publish for this purpose. You couldn't use the name on another software program used for this purpose.

No one can trade mark the name as used for selling camera equipment, photo processing, for photo galleries, etc.

Yeah I think you are ok. Just noticed it and thought I'd mention it. I should have worded that sentence in the previous post better - sorry.

The Duke indicated: “I think the attorneys who have posted here have already pointed out that names registered before the granting of a trademark are safe.”

Duke: If you happen to come across the exact thread indicating that, I would appreciate being pointed to it. Thanks again.

Duke:

Thanks so much for pointing me to the thread. It was much more than what you advertised as just “attorneys who posted here”. The thread included posts by Ari Goldberger, and John Berryhill, nationally know authorities in the IP domain field!!!!!!

Reading the tread with those heavyweights was just like receiving a personal phone call from Johnnie Cochran and then F. Lee Bailey on how to defend my parking ticket.

How did I get so lucky so as to get their advice/knowledge for free? Got to hang up with F. Lee though, I am expecting call about my pizza delivery.

Thanks again.

Thanks Kim - that's exactly how I look at it. I'd like to pick up a few more like that but with 1,000-1,200 .US names disappearing every day the pickings will start getting pretty slim soon.

Yep, let's fill up that wine cellar, so we can drink some good stuff later down the road :)
