HP.com is offering most of their top of the line photo papers for 50% off and free shipping.

HP Link

Their papers are superb, especially their large format papers.

I loaded up on the 11x17 and 13x19 sizes - Gloss, Matte, Soft Sheen.

Use the bingshopping.com link and get an additional 6-10% off in the form of cash to your PayPal account. Bing requires a separate sign up etc.

Disclaimer: The links are not affiliate links and I am not endorsing Bing or HP. Just passing on a great deal that is hard to beat.

I think it's cheaper overall taking your images in and having them printed, and the quality is far superior than doing it yourself. The money I was spending on ink and paper alone was ridiculous... All HP products too.

I have a professional large format printer.

I can control all aspects of print and print quality.

I use inks are archival and have a life of 200 years. When matting, framing, and selling prints this is a must. Nothing will lose clientele quicker than a print fading. I can also select smooth satin, matte, or gloss and different weight papers.

Some things are just a buzz kill.

Other members may choose not to use Walgreen or Walmart so we'll just say this information on savings is for them.

I tend to agree with raider but think it also depends on equipment and skills. For me personally, I get better quality results for less money by having it printed. On the other hand my son is a member of his university photo club -- there's some impressive equipment in the hands of some of this bunch. And they might well fair better with doc's deal. Thanks doc. BTW, DocsDeal.com is registered till Jan. 17, 2010.

No walgreens or walmart for me. We take our images to a photo shop up the street and the quality is amazing.... Besides, I'd rather give my money to a local business than to HP.

A good photo printer can indeed produce as good prints as your local photo shop.

I take my pics to the shop though, as I'm using a standard Epson Stylus multifunction printer with decent, but not great, photo printing capabilities.

Still looks like a great deal. Ink and photo paper is hella expensive in Norway (like everything else :sigh2:).

I guess I like having a hand in producing good prints. I used to spend a great deal of time in the darkroom in college and loved photography (and the other activities that went on in the darkroom  ). Our school had some 2x2 Yashicamats, some 4x5 format cameras and even some 8x10. Silver prints and B&W was so incredible. I also had a darkroom at home for quite some time. I still have two Durst Enlargers and a great deal of photo/darkroom equipment. I guess it is all a collectors item including all my 35mm cameras and lenses.

Excellent point and word to the wise. In the long, slow, drawn-out recovery ahead we had all better spend money with the businesses we want around -- or they likely won't be. I'm making concerted effort to do same.

We do the same as well. We get to deal one on one with local "mom and pop" shops and find them to be less crowded and great service. Many are prospering and even expanding! Seems like more and more people are rediscovering their own home towns.

But, buying directly from someone like HP is better business for me if I am intent on producing my own images. If I need something bigger than 13x19 I go to someone local that I trust and have used since 1985 (that was back in the pre-digital days) and Frame It (another business I have used since 1985).

Seems like the only time I print anything these days is when I want a poster... and I can't beat Costco.com's $9.99 price for 20"x30" posters.

I am not a member of costco so I have nothing to compare that too. I know a few places where I can get at least 44" wide by unlimited length (I think they can even go wider than that). I had a friend who did a panorama one time that just blew me away. It was something like 14 or 16 feet long.
