Maybe we can get a summary with your help.

Here in Germany = .de (followed by .com, .info )

USA = .com ( .us? any comments or experience which place?)

Please help!

For Greece, it used to be .com, followed by .gr

Now, I would say
1) .GR
2) .COM
3) .NET

I am a .info fan, but in our market, it has a small following, perhaps because info doesnt mean info in Greek like it does in some other European languages.
But, I think it is in 4th place here

see, thats the ticky part.
a short answer is no.
they would put .com in this case as you are using a foreign word.
Were they to use the englisg character equivalent in Greek, then they would use .gr
in Greek football is podosfairo, so there, they would type .gr
Either case, .gr would do the job.

in your example, you can visit both sites, football.gr and podosfairo.gr, and you will see that the Greek word version is a better developed site (to go along with the more traffic that the type ins of it would bring IMHO)

In Sweden it's:

1) .se
2) .nu / .com ties second place

The reason for .nu being there is because it means "now" in swedish, so alot of catchy phrases can be made, ie: spela.nu, nyheter.nu etc. (play.now, news.now) etc.

EXACTLY! Hmm ... why don't Canadians have their own language? :D But then people in the French-speaking Quebec never have to fight with the Anglophones, since they would register canadien.ca where the latter canadian.ca. LOL!
