That was my response to a Sedo lowball offer, who opted for the "Please justify your asking price" canned response.

More often than not, a domainer (domain investor) will submit an initial low ball offer to find out what the seller's actual asking price is.

The seller then gets frustrated with the continued stream of low ball offers an replies with an ask price well above what they may be willing to sell the domain for.

With regards to Sedo, it would be nice the have additional communication options so that buyers and sellers can work out the price while keeping the transaction on Sedo.

Because of the nature of the domain and the buyer's locale, I am positive that they made this offer in order to be "cheap". I don't set a minimum asking price with my domains because I want to gauge every offer's potential. I've had offers that started at $100 and ended up at $x,xxx - not to mention the one related to the sale of 360.org ;)

The offer went like $60, my response was $3,000 after I did my research, they replied with $61 and the canned Sedo response (an indication of smart-ass factor was the $1 increase). So I responded as above with a $5,000 asking price instead of canceling the bidding.

Works both ways :D

Hehe :D

It's simple, really.

People can use Sedo to play games or they can look up the WHOIS and place realistic offers via email. When they want to appear to be untraceable they use Sedo.

All I have to say is, thank you, ZFbot :D

Nice response :)

I had a $150 offer on a $8xx LLL.net. I countered with $2k (before slowly going down to $1.9k) but they dropped out at the $300 counter-offer mark. Bah. ;)

There are several ways to proceed with an offer. The ones that don't work with me are offers that discount the gap between their offer and my counter-offer. There is always room for meeting in the middle, when both parties intend to have a deal. Offers that stubbornly remain in their initial range receive scorn and the eventual cancellation from me.
