The banner ad is too large and competes with the logo/site name. Shift banner ad to right which will give plenty of space between the two. Consider going to a smaller size banner which will enable you to place two at the top. This may (or may not) still compete with the site logo/name but may offer enough space between the two. Or it may appear crowded still. Worth a shot.

looks like a forum. Not crazy about white text on a black background. There's quite a lot of wasted space at the top...large area of green space. Page title is "Index page", could be more informative.
