Is sending unsollicited PM to advertise your for-sale thread considered spam? I posted a bid in a thread which triggered someone else to send me a PM about his thread where similar type domains are offered. It happened before and I think it is annoying. What is your opinion: spam or just a way of doing business?

Well, it can be both ways. Annoying to receiver at times, but, ever company advertises, it's just the way it works, you can't get customers without being noticed. In this case, if the person just sent a link to the thread and such in PM to EVERY member instead of directing those who may have interest, then that is spam, but if it is filtered then I don't see as big of an issue. I've received advertisement PM's which linked me to getting great deals. If someone PM'd you saying they are selling an all premium LLL.com for 10k, you'd be glad they did, or in this case, whatever it was. I don't mind filtering through a spam PM here and there because there may be a good deal inside. I havn't personally found it to be much of a problem really.

If you put it that way I think there is obvious spam, unsollicited but very welcome PM (send me those triple premium LLL for under $10K) and a rather big grey area where opinions differ.

Haha, well that's just an example, far fetched, but an example. It pretty much varies based on the receivers opinion. Some people will consider it spam, and others will consider it advertising. In my opinion, if directly on topic and uniquely written, it's great for both the seller and the receiver.

Off to place Super Nintendo ;)

I HATE when people send me unsolicited PM's to buy their names....links or whatever.
I have also had people say "I saw you looking at my thread...send me an offer". What a load of crap...or should I say...spam. If I don't solicit it and you send me offers to buy...that is spam. And that is what I tell them....not usually that politely.

We all have a few regular traders we deal with and we will exchange "heads ups" or "niche" names we know each other likes...that is not unsolicited.....

That is why I usually send my offers or "solds" via PM....

Found this one in my PM box today and it is a clear example of what I don't like:

Hey leo,

saw you browsing - interested in doing a deal on these domains? I'd like to raise some cash for a recent purchase of mine.
