Just curious how you think a poem site would go over? I like to do poetry and thought about starting a site where I offer personalized poems.

I have done a few orders for a couple of people from DNF for this kind of stuff and honestly I enjoy it.

Think there would be any interest in it?

How would you come up with price that both you and customer would be happy?
How do you put a price on such thing?

I think poetry online
would work out just fine

Whoever I write the poems for would own all rights.

I would charge so much per word.

Go beyond that. Instead of you writing all the poems alone (which isn't feasible - you can never have infinite resources of creativity), you could get others to write them too (for a cut).

Charge a flat fee per page - say $20.

I like writing poetry too and wouldn't mind doing that for free either as long as the requests aren't completely inane.

I remember this site I came across some time back that let people buy customized rap songs for $25. Amateur rappers could take up the projects and make some nice change that way. The songs were pretty basic, of course, but a customized song/poem can be a very good gift. And there are plenty of poets out there. You might have a problem with quality control though...

Those are some good points but I wouldn't really want to be responsible for other people. If I knew the person or knew of them it would be different because I could discuss things with them..

The only way that would work out if all work was submitted to me before sending to the customer.

I am really thinking of giving this a go however. I am just trying to come up with ideas for how to do a website.

Membership site where they have to register or just a sales type site with samples.

Another thing I thought about doing was adding something with cafepress or other company that allows you to customize things. Aside from just the poem they could have it put on something as a gift t-shirts, caps, coffee mugs, etc..

Don't bother with a website. Just do a wordpress blog with a nice theme. Put up some of your own poems as posts, so that customers can see the kind of poems you can write. Put up a contact page where they can get in touch with you about writing poems for them...a website will be too much trouble for a one man (woman) operation

a lot of the dudes i have worked with, always called me "big d" or "disco"

"disco" came from always being seen in the popular nite clubs

and "big d" came from "standing tall" inspite of adversities in the workplace.

of course "d" is my first initial and "biggie" came from biggie smalls aka Notorious B.I.G whom i am a fan of.

even now, the president and owner of our company, will refer to me as "big d"

even though i am no taller than the average dudes i run with :)

don't want to run over "Pink's' thread, but i do think a poet site could do well.

i just don't have clock space for it, though poetry is a passion which i still express.
