It would be great if people apprasing names could state for what market they are appraising for.

I suspect DrWho is sugesting $300 for the wholesale market (speculators, DNF members) andEd30 the retail/endusers? If this is true then they are probably both right. But the person asking for the opinions may not know that.

In other words if dotNetKing puts portland.org in Sunday night's auction(wholesale) is he going to get closer to $300 or $1000?

This may be obvious to some but not to newer or less experienced people.

Cheers

Edit: I guess .com.net.org(below) didn't think much of my request lol

Minimum $3K for an end-user. For re-seller market, especially with the crowd here, may be $300 to $500....if lucky

Very nice ".ORG". Portand, OR. or Portland, ME. It's been my experience and observation, though, that these type city's municipal or chamber sites like to use, for instance, PortlandOR.org! Of course, there are a LOT of other potential non-profit users, as well. I like these in the ".ORG". Nice job.
Good Luck.

The interesting question is why so much variation in valuations, all the way from low hundreds to $15K (I personally tend to agree more with the latter) while we're talking about an established tld (.org) and not the newer ones (.INFO/.BIZ/.US) and while many of the valuations are by experienced members ("Domain Whizes")?

It's nice when official sites use the proper logical structure... it makes it easy to find them, and unambiguous which Portland they're about!

It's just fine if cities use urls with "logical structure" but one might just wonder how many internet users are familiar with and are likely to use these "unambiguous" urls. And, one other point, geogrpgical and city-related websites do not just start and end with the "official" sites! ;)

Well, I found those two myself by "blind type-in"... whenever I'm looking for an official city site I always try www.ci.[cityname].[state].us first, and when looking for an official state site I try www.state.[state].us. But I'm more clueful than most... the drooling newbies out there probably just try [cityname].com first...
