.pro could possibly enjoy a closer look and status if new brand gTLD's are approved.

If there is acceptance of newly released domain extensions like .music, .sports, .nyc, .berlin...

If all of that comes to pass then there may be a new found interest in extensions like .pro and .travel.

But, too much has to happen for all of these possible scenarios.

Until then, .pro will remain way down the list of the "must" have domains.

I see where you're coming from but I beg to disagree. IMO .pro will be diluted in a increasing supply of new extensions. But it depends a lot on marketing - we all know .pro marketing has been awful or downright nonexistent. So it will have to compete with possibly unrestricted TLDs backed by major players (okay if that ever means much - it did no good to .mobi).

There is little talk about .pro among domainers because the ext doesn't represent a large market. Transaction volume is limited and liquidity is low... dare I say: avoid :eek:k:

As you say, I beg to differ.

There is absolutely NO POINT in turning this into a .mobi thread as there is little more to say that has not been said countless times.

Domainers do not get to decide what will and will not be accepted.

Promoting and marketing of any extension will be paramount - not to domainers but to the consumer.

I you look at .pro from an investment point o view, I don't think that you will be able to sell many of them at a decent price. The extension is hardly used and I have seen any company using it in commercials.

With new gTLDs comming up, the market will be more diluted and .pro will even move back further.

.Pro is great for development.

Resale is an issue though due to the minute market you can currently sell to (professionals only).

As a developer, I'd rather take a single keyword .pro over double hyphened .coms which seem to be all that the .com evangelists sell to noobs nowadays. :eek:k:

.pro screwed up with their tight restrictions in the beginning.

It probably looked good on paper to them at the time... but then again..

...so did .travel

I don't see that extension ever recovering.

How I know from seo experts .pro is perfect for ranking!
For my project I prefer Broadcast.pro than idioticdotcombroadcast.com !!!

These sound like the same kind of experts that sell forum sigs and paid2post kind of services.

.PRO is treated as a gTLD by goog, its a lot better than some of ccTLDs out there.

And definitely looks better to have Paintball.pro as your domain as compared to wowilovepaintball.com as a brand.

Please can somebody post details of a book or link where an SEO expert says .pro is terrible for ranking. I have read several books on SEO and they all say the same thing, extension doesn't matter. The only time it matters is for geos, having a geo ending makes it harder to rank on the non-geo versions of search engines. I have never heard any SEO expert say .biz ranks ahead of .mobi, or .org ranks ahead of .info because it isn't trust. Backlinks, content, domaining ageing, site structure and tagging matters, extension doesn't.

Armed with that information, .pro starts to look appealing, it's a gTLD with no search engine geo bias, it was launched in 2004 and the top domains were regged in 2005 so it's going to be more aged than any new gTLD, and it's more appealing from a branding angle than .biz, .mobi, and .info. There are 15,000+ US trademarks that include the word "Pro", that's more than virtually all other extensions put together, put in allinurl(colon)pro.com in Google to see Pro branding appeal in .com.

Comparing .pro with .travel is illogical because travel is a keyword, pro is a branding suffix so Pro is more suited for bolt on use as a domain name. Pro is also shorter and snappier. RegistryPro are due to renew their management contract with ICANN in May 2010 and I'm hoping they will scrap the residual restrictions, their marketing has been dire but they signed up to a terrible business model 5 years ago and so they didn't have any money to spend on .pro. I think they have learned their lesson after losing money for 5 years and it will be difficult to ICANN to get anybody to run .pro with restrictions now the exclusivity of running a gTLD is going to disappear. gTLD's will compete on age and brandability and .pro is a front runner on both fronts.

I have been negotiating on the sale of 3 .pros this week. I agreed a sale of a .pro at 5,000 Euros on Sedo yesterday. With one of the other potential sales, the buyer is a French company with 40 employees, they have a domain in the format Keyword-Pro.fr and they are looking to upgrade to Keyword.pro, the buyer acknowledges that Keyword.pro is more brandable than Keyword-Pro.fr. A couple of weeks back, I sold Switch.pro for $2,000 to a Japanese buyer, he was a lighting engineer and designer, the site is already live.

LOL. I see. Stick to your .pro dudes, all your sigs are enlightning :D
FYI, drastic tests were made and conclusions were pretty obvious on the long run.

I am not here to belittle tlds, as I dont really care. People do what they want. I even like the sounding of .pro, the way it can be marketed, but its not sufficient enough imo. Just tried to provide forum members with some unbiased info. For what its worth

Good luck.

and then smbody will show up links, with your comments from DNforum.com??))
Good luck mate and happy domaining!!)
Lol, good one ^^
Apologizes for the negative tone I may have had. I invite people doing cautious tests themselves, I guess thats the best advice to provide :)

To me its not like GG algo is harming .pro per se, but, as GG refers itself as an user-centric company and there is no extensive use of the tld currently by both developpers/ internauts --> taken into account by the algo at present. If an increasing number of quality websites.pro suddenly emerges, it is really possible that the SEO penalties I and others noticed simply disappear. Just guessing.

Good luck to you too
