Those were the days... I sold 2 LLL .coms for a lot less than that

Mind you, I bought them off Ebay for half that price above.

They then kinda doubles in value each year and this year, well, theyve halved.
They;ll be back and then get stronger so long as the internet stays as we know it.

Exactly 7 years ago I bought a LLL .com on eBay for the grand sum of ....$159.50
Being wet behind the ears, I placed it on eBay a few weeks later without reserve!
It sold for $227.50

Yes, I learned my lesson the hard way.

Assuming "pronounceable" means the second letter is a vowel, here's a bit of sales history as well:

The second letter doesn't have to be a vowel,

asp, ace, ate are all (even those last two) 3 letter pronounceables. Spy, Ski, Two, Sly are also (and just imagine how many non-word pronounceables there are?).

Good point dragger but OP also said first letter was "Y" or "Z". Second letter just about has to be a vowel to be pronounceable by general definition (e.g. excluding combinations such as "ZSH", etc.).

Yes, I learned my lesson the hard way.

That is a very decent ROI, 42% in a few weeks. If you get that kind of ROI each month, and start the year with $1000 investment, after one year you will have turned your $1000 into $67,214. If you do it for two years, you will end up with $4,500,000. If that is "learning lessons the hard way" I'd be happy to learn some more.

/ontopic:
I think whether a domain is pronouncable is not a criterium for endusers, but resellers think it is important. If it is a word or a name than there is some extra value, and indeed: words and names tend to be pronouncable. In general I think the prices for pronouncables start at $5k (yla .com sold for $5k earlier this year on Afternic and some people think it is pronouncable) and the sky is the limit.

Surely you're jesting, mvl.

Your logic fails to take into account two important elements: lack of inventory and assuming that there will be a constant flow of buyer interest. Not to mention, there will never be such low prices for LLL .com's again.

On top of that, considering how a $159.50 purchase would have been turned into $10,000 just 5 years later at the peak of the LLL .com exchange rate, you'll see that the chump change I made back then on eBay is not "a very decent ROI".

The summer of 2002 was a turning point for me; in the fall, I discovered the early version of DNForum :D

Yes of course, but it's easier to look back than to look ahead.
