I found a typo that gets the same Overture count as the original name (1,500,000+) Is this a good thing or no big deal. I'm not sure if typo's and their Overture stats have any significance. The typo even gets a whopping 145 Google results.

Do GOOD typos get decent appraisals? I thought zndet.com was a great typo, but didn't get much praise.

Commonly with Overture, a typo defaults to the correct spelling. Did you test it out by adding the domain extension, such as vacation.com and vacatien.com?

What do you mean by a Google result of 145? If you mean just 145 results, then this is a very poor typo.

I think the bottom line here is that a typo is as valuable as the traffic it produces. It's almost impossible to tell without actually owning the domain and counting the hits.

I generally judge them by requests for the "exact" mis-spelled word. And the Google results for that mis-spelling. But, all of this is meaningless if you don't get your page indexed in the engines and have some content behind it.

Also, some spelling errors are more common than others. Usually the ones that involve adjacent letters on the keyboard are best. Think to yourself "How hard would it be for me to type that incorrectly?"

If someone had the name before you and let it drop, chances are that it wasn't producing. If you were the first to discover this variant after all this time, that might also indicate that it isn't that great either.

Just my .02. Reg the name and try it out. People want way too much stroking before they let go of <$10. Just Do It!

The typo in question has only one letter that's different from the original and it is one key away from the correct letter, so the chances of it being mis-spelled are quite high.

As far as Google results are concerned, wouldn't a mis-spelled word obviously get low results?

Also, whats the highest appraisial anyone has given to a typo?

I should of used "original term" instead of "original name"...........

Doesn't matter if I type in the original term or the mis-spelled term, I get the same results. And a strange thing, if I mis-spell the term any other way, I get zero results. It only gets those results with the typo in question.

lets say original term is "universe". Your typo is "univerae". Now first type into overture "universe.com" and then "univerae.com" and tell us how many results you get. When you type it into overture, exclude the quotes.

DA, Are you talking about the "Search Term Suggestion Tool"?

I think I understand what you mean, I haven't been putting the .com with the typo term in question. But If I were to put universe and univerae in the Search Term Suggestion Tool, universe gets a count of 21259, univerae gets 0. With the term I have, I get 1,500,000+ suggestions no matter if I use the correct term or the typo term. But if I need the .com on my term, I know I'll get 0 and I do, but wouldn't that be what's expected, being that it's a typo and not a common phrase?

I guess I don't quite understand the ins and outs of typo's, I'll do a little research........Thanks

No. Try for instance "mircosoft.com" or "goverment.com" and even though its a typo it gets lots of searches. Then try my "zndet.com" and youll see it gets 34. Thats not a lot offcourse, but still is something. Offcourse the actual browser typein figure should be greater, I remember somebody saying that what overture show for a month, is how many typeins you should expect per day. Im a bit sceptical about that, so dont take me for granted - its just something ive heard..

PS: yes, term sug. tool..

I wonder, would kinhgost.com and jinghost.com and others generate any traffic, considering that kinghost.com is ranked as 53 by traffic at alexa?

For a misspelled word to be worth anything, IMO it really needs to have a significantly higher return at Google, say 500+. But if your typo is of a high value product that can be sold over the Internet, maybe 145 is okay.

Not sure of the highest appraisal for a typo, but I know of one typo being purchased for $6.5k, and another person said he wanted more then $10k for a typo of a travel word, and he was genuine.

Here's some examples of a commonly misspelled word in which the Overture tool can give a rough guestimate of the type-in traffic:
caribbean: Google 6.7 million; Overture caribbean.com = 878
carribean: Google 266,000; Overture carribean.com = 534
carribbean: Google 37,100; Overture carribbean.com = 66

The daily type-ins for the above domain names, IMO, would be respectively 580, 350 and 40 (multiplied .com Overture results by 2/3rds - maybe others have a more accurate method of guessing type-ins?).

It's important to note that sometimes Overture gives a nil result for a domain name, but in reality it can get upwards of 50 daily type-ins, as is the case with a couple of names I have.

Wouldn't most people click on "Did you mean: caribbean " I would. The fact that Google gives you the option for the correct spelling kinda negates the 266,000 returns cause I don't think most people will sift thru 266,000 returns if they have the option to sift thru 6.7 million with the known correct spelling.

A search engine that does not give you the correct spelling option would be more well suited for typo's I would think.

If the top results are relevant to the search a person is making, they'll most probably click on these before considering the "Did you mean..." option, because it saves them time.

That's where an excellent typo domain can come up trumps in terms of bringing direct type-in traffic to a website, without even having to fight for top listings with any search engines. Which is why they can be very valuable.

Compare this with another traffic genrator: paying a pay-per-click firm such as Overture or Google's Adwords. Using the same example above, at Overture, Expedia and other top bidders are paying around a dollar per click for the targetted keyword 'Caribbean'. If they received 275 visitors a day from Overture at this rate, it would cost Expedia $100k per year, probably the same amount if they covered their bases by also buying the top spots at Google.

That's a cool $200k per year spent by one travel firm on one keyword at current prices (may go up) - so places like Overture and Google are laughing all the way to the bank.

typos can be great:
I collected 8 typo domain variations that gives me a total of 8 type in/day.
All redirected to the original website with affiliate-id.
==> The value are $0.8/type in and gives $200/month in affiliate commision. not bad for a $72 investment and 20min of my time.

Would not sell for less than $4.000

That's cool windows22 - you're earning affiliate commissions from the sponsor whose website you have typos of, LOL.

Typo's are much more important for URL direct type-ins.
