I have a snap on a name, and this is the Status:

Status: REGISTRAR-LOCK
Status: REGISTRAR-HOLD
Updated Date: 06-dec-2002
Creation Date: 14-may-1999
Expiration Date: 14-may-2005

Can Anyone tell me the deal with this?
Why does it have two statuses?

Was the domain locked when it expired, and is now on hold?

Could this be causing the domain to take longer to be released since the updated date is Dec.

I am confused, and thought someone may have figured this out before by experiencing a wait on a domain with simialar statuses.

Thanks.

It appears the domain's registration was updated on 12/06/02 to extend the registered period to 05/14/05.

But wehy would the status show a Hold? Is it active or on Hold. I have seen this on a few different domains so far.

What expiry date does the actual registrar give?

Record expires on 14-May-2004.
Record created on 14-May-1999.

Ok that is just totally ODD.

Why would the registrar have a different date than all other whois that I checked, I tried three other that have the same date and info, except the actual registrar.

I also have another with the same thing, they are both registered with network solutions.

Registrar Info:
Record expires on 25-Feb-2004.
Record created on 25-Feb-1999.

Other Whois Infos:
Status: REGISTRAR-LOCK
Status: REGISTRAR-HOLD
Updated Date: 06-dec-2002
Creation Date: 25-feb-1999
Expiration Date: 25-feb-2005

It may be a good name , not renewed by registrant . Registrar may have paid the renewal out of their pocket assuming that registrant will eventually renew. And registrant has still not paid to the registrar. So it is 'active' and 'on hold' at the same time.

Registrars DO pay for the renewal UPON expiry. However, they will be refunded if they cancel it within the 45 days grace period with the registry.

As for the two "status" settings, multiple status settings can be in effect at once. Only a handful cannot co-exist. I know ACTIVE / REDEMPTIONPERIOD / PENDINGDELETE cannot co-exist. Well... as far as I know. ;)

Not to sound too negative, but sometimes it seems like registrars get to change and make up the rules as they go!

What's wrong with a firm, established set of rules and EVERYBODY plays by them?

Domainnut, I'm totally with you. In fact, I think registrars should NOT be in the expired domain business AT ALL!

Anyone smell monopoly?

Peace,
