Why are people buying let say copyright domains. They should know that they can get sued.

You get virtually nothing out of registering copyrighted domains, except a C n' D
 
For the record, domains cannot be copyrighted... but they can violate trademarks. Huge legal difference.

Note the keyword "should". But do they?

And as Dan said, it's trademarks, not copyrights.
