Ok,

I know this is gonna be a dumb question, but if I were to reg a domain for strong keyword purposes..what is the difference between say:

doghouse.com
housedog.com
dog-house.com and
house-dog.com

are these all relatively equal when it just comes to keyword strength in a domain name?

Well,

I have a 2 word .com in mind and I notice that it is taken and also with the hyphen, so I was thinking ok..what if I registered it the other way around....would there be a difference as to how search engines read it or are they going to look at the domain as having those two words with indifference..I think I just confused myself.

Theres way more variables that come into paly for the SEO aspects of it, so dont be discouraged. using your example house-dog.com could out rank doghouse.com if optimized properly.

Order matters for keywords just as much from a search engine perspective as it does from a human perspective.

House dog is a dog that has been house-broken.
Dog house is a dwelling built for a dog.

Search sell out, then search out sell. They have two totally different meanings, and the search result sets reflect that with very different listings. You will get overlaps with very high-ranking sites, like Wikipedia for example. Authoritative sites have their own set of rules within a search engine, so don't expect to get the same treatment unless you happen to be running MySpace or Craigslist.

I would absolutely agree with you if your intentions were strictly for monetizing purposes only. Did you actually try your example?

I see the cross over, doing the search for "out sell" and most of the top results
high light "Sell Out" as you notice not one of the domains in each search refer to
sellout.com or outsell.com in the names.

Which makes my point nicely which I did not articulate very well earlier. The search
engine cars more about the content than the domain name, Please understand I'm
not saying the domain name doesn't play a big role in the matter, but it is not the end all
if you mange the content of the site correctly. This being said I am speaking for a production
selling goods or services. Now if your intentions are strictly for domain monetizing and picking
up traffic, well doghouse.com would be the best way to go.

I don't think I need to add, but I will. How many times have you done a search and seen some stupid LLL or LLLL domain pop up at the top of the search, even though the domain name is gibberish.

Funny, steveto your dumb questions will generate all sorts of opinions on this board. Until the programmer at Google that hold the key comes out and tells you we do x, y, and z which will never happen, no one really knows. We all use our best educated guess pulled from our past experiences as well as trial and tribulation.

Hone in on the talking point's that make the most sense to you, and then listen to your gut.

Rich
