Tough call. He jumped up in price quite a bit. You can always counter with a higher figure, normally double of their offer, then the counter, and so on. But, if you think that's all you'll get for it, take it.

insane.us right? Not a bad name, but it's a .us. What would you do with the domain name?

I've invested a number of hours in the domain. I would need $750 to consider selling the name.

I'm wondering myself what the guy/gal is going to do with it; I just got it because it sounded cool....had no particular idea what I'd do with it.

Pretty nice offer for a .US in today's market. Insane.us is a cool name though, even without obvious commercial applications. I would still be inclined to sell it at the price level. You can register 70 new .US names for that much money and there are still a lot of good ones sitting out there.

$500- Take it - unless you are emotionally attached, then take $1500

I'd take $500. Its a good name but not a great name. It's not like you can sell insanity.

I would take the $500...I also would not post the guys email address in an open forum...for all you know he has now received a dozen emails offering him similiar names. Just my advice. Good luck.

"How about $500" implies he expects haggling. Play the game and you can't go wrong. I bet you his next email will be "lets meet in the middle" (of the difference between your counter and his "how about") The good thing is you haven't uttered a price yet.

Good luck indeed.

P.S. I've NOT posted the actual e-mail address of the buyer ("XXXXXX" is made-up and not real address)

Here's the further correspondence:

537.00 FIRM.

This will include the escrow/transfer fees. Escrow.com
will cost $30.00 (you'd pay them directly) and $7.00
(for transfer of name from Bulkregister.com to
GoDaddy.com...this will add one more year to the
registration period that will get transferred to you,
but the main reason is that transfer of ownership is
free with GoDaddy.com whereas it'd cost you another
$69.00 with Bulkregister.com.

If this is acceptable, make an offer thru Escrow.com
for $507.00.

Regards,

Tariq

Lets see what happens!

The only reason I think $500 sounds good is if he has a change of heart, you may never get an offer for this much again as it is not a particularly commercially appealing name. You could push him to see how much he wants it, but if you lose him, and I know people who have lost deals because of asking for $100 more, and then have the person not interested at even half the original offer, you may never find another. If the name had obvious use I'd say up that price, way up there. But for this name, consider $500 very good luck.

In any case, hope you make a deal!

I think you did the right thing.

However, I wouldnt use escrow for such a small amount.

Good luck.

Just wondering ...

Is this buyer someone whose initials are tp? If so, PM me and I'll tell you more about the potential buyer. This is just a hunch, but you never know!! Good luck to you!

Couple of years ago, I got an offer for from a european buyer for what I thought was $50 but in fact it was $500 (I'd have taken it immediately) so I said NO. About a week later, he offered me $5000 and spelled it out saying "we can't offer more than 5 thousands"....rest is history; the name was sold!!
