As I see it, the "me" tells you that they are in direct connection, you would use this for a Twitter page
<a href="http;//www,twitter,com/mytwitter" rel="me">@mytwitter</a>
Telling that that page is yours and respectably on your twitter page you would link back to your own website
<a href="http;//www,mywebsite,com" rel="me">My Website</a>
So that they are connected in a way.

However, how does Google see this or has anyone played around with it?

If you have 100s of developed minisites all linking to each other in a linkwheel with rel="me" would Google rank them higher, rank them lower as they can see the correlation between the sites or rank them the same and ignore this attribute?

Thanks!

(also for HTML5 rel="author")

I don't see how it's possible to be sandboxed for "manipulating SEO" as all anchor text links directly relate to the same niche with unique content. However, placing the rel="me" signifies that they're all my websites. Is there a penalty for owning more than one website? Look at Google and how many they own. Would they like other spiders to know that it is one big conglomerate by using that rel or do they leave it out? Why would they if it's all their company?

If the 100s of sites have unique content, linked together saying they're in the same network and niche, how is it judged by Google? (10 sites per IP as well).

I haven't been able to find anything out about this other than it's good to share that X page links to Y social page with rel="me" and Y social page link to X page with rel="me" to show authority.

Are there any SEO experts on this?

You need unique c blocks otherwise it's a waste of time. Honestly, don't bother with link building or over-thinking meta data. Google is way past this. :)

Yeah but once you start cross-linking hundreds of sites you're likely heading into manipulation territory, whether the sites are related or not, since you're doing it for SEO reasons and not for users.

What do you mean by don't bother with link building? Are you suggesting links are no longer important for SEO? That couldn't be further from the truth.

Yup, 10 per C. It's a real pain to get a new IP as you need to fill out a questionnaire every time... I don't do meta data, just anchor text. Maximum 2 outgoing per website with a targetted keyword in a 500-700 word article.

Anchor text is also a thing of the past. If you want serious SERP progression you'll have to re-code most of your websites. Speed + Semantic markup = Brownie Points.

P.S. If I knew you were a marine I wouldn't of helped you - I was Army

Fast server, fast port, speed isn't an issue.

Though, we have better uniforms. :)

Your load time is ok. (http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/x7U5G8t0D/djw.net)

The age of link wheels has been over. I only link between my websites for portfolio purposes.

Marines definitely have better uniforms but I never trust someone who is good at drill and ceremony.

I just noticed the rel="me" in Wordpress, that was new to me anyway. I just didn't want to link all sites together and then be sandboxed for doing it.

Drill and ceremony create discipline. Discipline makes you focus. Focus makes you achieve. ;)

Honestly the rel="me" has nothing to do with whether it would hurt your rankings or not. You are overthinking this.

Well, nobody can say for sure until it's been tested as the algorithm has never been published. Users have only tried to guess and to their success have made it.

I'm just putting it out there.

Never chase the algorithm. You'll never win.

Google will NEVER penalize quality websites that are user focused.

So I'll be the first person to lose my passive income... Great idea!

Testing whether something works is better then trusting someone's opinion on the internet, especially when it comes to SEO, that's for sure!

The fear in your words DOES seem like you are trying manipulative SEO practices to me. You wouldn't be asking otherwise.
