Hi

My first post here so go easy :)

Acquired this domain for around (price removed) about 18 months ago with the intention of setting up a remote support business. Have since been promoted and I'm weighing up selling the domain. Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Edit: I have also developed the domain for it's intended usage. Worth more developed? Website may not be to everyones taste.

Thanks

Mike

I think most people here would agree that you overpaid for the domain. The only way you would be able to turn a profit or salvage some investment would be to build this business a little and sell it as a biz-op, not as a domain.
Regarding the site, I think it is attractive, probably appeals to your demographic well. Mis-spell on your "technition" link in info bar. Also, links in slider module do not work for me.

The domain alone is low XXX, best case, in my estimation. With site, mid to high XXX. With some customers, promotion, and history, could be worth a multiple of potential.

You have a typo on your front page:
You got Technitions you can trust. It should read Technicians you can trust.

Hi 2gajgops

Thanks for your feedback and pointing out the typos - appreciate it. It's only been live a couple of days and I’m still tweaking it. Links in the scrolling div do not have an active link as of yet. Website was designed to appeal to the mothers at home / younger generation.

Do you think it might be worth contacting LogMeIn as I believe they paid over the odds for join.me and support.me recently (although I do agree these are stronger domains).

Thanks silentg. That sentence didn’t really build much trust! Fixed.

It wouldn't hurt to reach out to anyone that has paid decent bucks for .me domains. it definitely has development potential in a few areas.

You really paid a lot for the domain. At that price, it would have warranted having a stronger business idea or plan of execution. I think it's worth more undeveloped. I personaly would create a very attractive web 2.0 intensive "for sale" sign for it. I would also do my best to get the word out about it since Sedo is getting to have their .me auction in the next 2 weeks. Call one of the representatives up- you might still be able to submit. Also, I would delete the price that you paid for it from your post.

Best of luck! Let us know what you decide.

James - thanks for the feedback very much appreciated.

I honestly thought it would be worth more than has been said but value all of your comments and feedback.

I have a business plan to start Remote.Me LTD utilizing the current domain but wasn’t sure if it was worth quitting my full time job as a system administrator based in Cardiff. The decision becomes easier when I have to commute 2 ½ hours a day and don’t see any promotion prospects available (it’s a very small company and of course times are hard).

I’m quite inexperienced with domain valuations (as you can now tell!) but bought it straight out of University thinking it would suite my needs perfectly. My only disappointment is on your realistic valuations. I hope that my advertising material (flyers, local newspapers and of course Google) will help it pay off. If anyone would like to give me any start-up advice I’m of course all ears.

I’m very grateful for all of your comments and hope I can make this most of the business / domain in the future.

Hope to see you all on the forums regularly.

Hey,

Keep in mind Mike that the advice are coming from mostly pure domainers. A name alone will not break an endeavor. A strong vision with motivation and persistent can succeed with most any reasonable. You payed end user price for your domain because that is essentially your function- you're not a domainer. That aside- execute your plan with the same fervor you had before. A domain (in and of itself) doesn't make a business(though sometimes it can). Generate s strong cost analysis and with every avenue you're considering- come up with 2-3 alternatives. There are always cheaper alternatives out there or should I say 'less expensive' as cheap denotes a lack of quality (but hey sometime cheaper is just fine).
Anyways,
Good luck!

To be honest, I did not like the domain. Remote.me sounds kind of add. Support.me , Log.me, Connect.me sounds good.

Remote.me not clicking for me, but good luck with everything.
